[edit]User:Johnpacklambert really what is the point of that Category:American expatriates in Japan for US military personnel? Every U.S. military person who served occupation duty or any duty time in Japan would fall within that category, what is the point of that? Mztourist (talk) 12:08, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- They were in the country for an extended period of time. That is what defines being an expatriate. For some they did significant things or it significantly affected them. It is a clear part of their life that can be categorized. For the Korean War we default define all veterans as expatriates in that country. Same for Vietnam and the Vietnam War. For WWII it is not as clear such people were in any particular country, but if we can do it for Korean War veterans we should clearly do it for people we know were in a country for defining periods of time. Moving quickly through theatres of war is probably not defining, but being stationed in one area for an extended period of time is.John Pack Lambert (talk) 12:13, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- No we don't define Vietnam War veterans as American Expatriates in South Vietnam and nor should we. It is a completely pointless overcategorization. What possible benefit does it serve? Mztourist (talk) 05:35, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
