Greek

[edit]

Leontopolis is a Greek name! --ADMH 08:47, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is! I removed the tag. --Anas Salloum 09:07, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
However, Tell al Muqdam is Arabic. Markh 10:00, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mix

[edit]

This article unfortunately mixes the Leontopolis in the Delta (Tell el-Muqdam) and the Leontopolis near Heliopolis (Tell el-Yahudiyya). Onais' IV temple is located in the latter one (as the name indicates). --77.8.164.141 (talk) 10:16, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great could you create a separate article for one of the two Leontopolis and move the appropriate material to it ? Then we will create a disambiguation page for the two. Iry-Hor (talk) 10:47, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave that to native speakers. --77.8.164.141 (talk) 11:32, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No you can't rely on people to do it because those interested in Leontopolis did the mistake of mixing the two. I personally do not know which piece of the article is about which Leontopolis and therefore cannot create the new article. However what I can do is correct the phrasing, typos and grammar of an article. So please think about it. Wikipedia did not become what it is simply because people signaled mistakes (which is great in itself !) but also because these people decided to set things straight ! Also see this Leontopolis (Heliopolis) Iry-Hor (talk) 17:47, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that article is about Tell el-Yahudiyya. I moved the information about the Jewish temple to that article (there's also a separate article about the temple itself: Land of Onias). Everything else in this article seems to belong here, so I just added a mention of the other Leontopolis to the hatnote and removed the cleanup tag. A. Wow ! Thanks for the swift action ! I am really impressed Iry-Hor (talk) 19:21, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I just happened across this issue while looking over the list of recent edits to ancient Egypt articles (Special:RecentChangesLinked/Index_of_ancient_Egypt-related_articles; you can find a link to it near the bottom of WP:WikiProject Ancient Egypt). I look at the list once a day on average. It's a good way to maintain the ancient Egypt articles against the tide of vandalism, and sometimes I can clean up preexisting messes like this one. A. Parrot (talk) 20:07, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I know this list and that's how I got on the Leontopolis discussion in the first place ! But I still find you taking action so fast remarkable. Next time, I will try to be as swift and efficient as you ! Iry-Hor (talk) 09:37, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the star on the map belongs to Leontopolis (Heliopolis). Leontopolis from Tell el-Moqdam is in the middle of the Delta, a bit East. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.77.10.199 (talk) 15:47, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
