Technique

[edit]

OK, exactly what techniques were used to create the film? I just saw the trailer and there's absolutely no way that it was all done with hand puppets. From what I could see, it looked like a mix of stop motion, possibly marionettes and CGI, but it was hard to tell because the resolution was so small. Does anyone have any info about this? Yes, I do. I am a huge fan of Pili, so I know a lot about it. It was done all mostly using hand puppets with some CG. There is no stop motion used at all. There are no marionettes. It's all budaixi. Unlike other hand puppets, budaixi puppets have legs.

I don't see how this film is not classified as "animation". It fits the category perfectly for a puppet animation. With the multiple camera shots, this film was animated segment by segment. Does it not count toward animation because the puppet have legs?? Budaixi is not robotics and requires some form of manual direction by hand or string etc. Benjwong 20:20, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not animation because it's not animated. Definition of animation: an·i·ma·tion (ān'ə-mā'shən) Pronunciation Key n. The act, process, or result of imparting life, interest, spirit, motion, or activity. The quality or condition of being alive, active, spirited, or vigorous.

The art or process of preparing animated cartoons. An animated cartoon.

Things considered Chinese Animation in the category are either cartoons or CG. I don't consider puppetry to be animation.

It is not a 2D Animated Cartoon, but it is categorized as "puppet animation" to be exact. Which still falls under the definition of Animation per wikipedia standard. The film is in motion and the characters are animated. There are no live actors. Benjwong 22:44, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other Info

[edit]

I added other info such as the mandarin names and year of release. I don't see how any of this info actually conflict with the techniques. I am redo-ing it again. Benjwong 20:20, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
