Did Leesburg's original courthouse survive the civil war? If so, maybe we could change the wording on the text to read "The original courthouse was one of few in the South to survive the civil war. It has since been replaced with a courthouse built in 1894." Bo-Lingua 01:25, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Factoid removal

[edit]

Any particular reason you removed the factoid? It places some of the residents of leesburg at Pickett's Charge (Gettysburg). Not saying good or bad, just wondering why. Bo-Lingua 06:24, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As I tried to give the page a bit more structure, it was the one item that didn't seem, to me, to really fit anywhere. Also, it didn't have a reference despite having been tagged for a little while. Finally, it's interesting mainly because it suggests a living connection to the civil war, but it has less relevance as time goes on and we don't know if the man is still alive or not.
Looking at it again, I still don't think it quite belongs in the article. However, I don't feel that strongly about it, so I would not object if you want to restore it.--Kubigula (talk) 14:24, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I should also clarify that I referred to it as the "odd factoid" in the sense of it being out of place rather than the sense of it being bizarre. Sorry if that was unclear.--Kubigula (talk) 14:31, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Loudoun Seal.jpg

[edit]

Image:Loudoun Seal.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:34, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Fair Use, Loudoun Seal, Leesburg Flag

[edit]

I have permission to use Loudoun's seal for noncommercial use. I can extend my license to wikipedia, for noncommercial use, if that would help.

Same thing with Leesburg's flag. Let me know how I can help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Squonk64 (talkcontribs) 22:09, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the offer. Unfortunately, Wikipedia's mission is to create almost completely free content, and a restriction to noncommercial use is incompatible with Wikipedia licensing. Wikipedia itself is noncommercial, but it allows reuse of its content for noncommercial and commercial purposes.--Kubigula (talk) 16:26, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Several minor edits made

[edit]

I added something to the "history" page that discusses the downtown merchants recent marketing campaign. It might be inappropriate where it is, but there is no sensible place to put it other than there without creating a "hanging section," i.e., a new section with one sentance of text that simply restates the heading. I can expand with graphics, if you'd like.

I also edited the Market Station discussion because it is inaccurate. Market Station is not Leesburg's downtown, the intersection of US-15 and VA-7, it is about two blocks away. This entire paragraph also seems to be written by a "for profit" owning or renting space at Market Station. I suggest the entire paragraph be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Squonk64 (talkcontribs) 22:05, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

neighbohoods section

[edit]

There are a lot of pages dealing with individual subdivision neighborhoods in Leesburg that do not meet the Wikipedia notability guidelines, the references are generally HOA websites. I propose to create a neighborhoods section on this page and merge most of the contents of the pages their (mostly short histories and school districts) as well as add additional info about the historic district and other neighborhoods. Any comments/suggestions? Arbogastlw (talk) 17:50, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More Factoids?

[edit]

Here's one that I found on CNN/Money.com -- http://apps.money.cnn.com/bestplaces_2011/compare_tool_2011.jsp?id=PL5144984. (Apparently, it ranks 4th in the Best Places to Live 2011 and is the highest-ranked town in the DC area for that list.) Could this be inserted into the article in any way? (I just don't want it to sound like some shameless promo.) Thanks. ~T.L. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.73.43.18 (talk) 23:39, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can see no reason why it should not be included.Meatsgains (talk) 00:35, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Leesburg Flag Adoption verification?

[edit]

Can anyone confirm the flag shown is in fact "official"?

Per https://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/us-valee.html, the sources it has cited indicates that the shown flag was used for the 250th celebration, but not verification that it was officially adopted.

Furthermore, I am unable to find any reference to the flag on the Leesburg official website, nor any reference to the flag in the municipal code. Mrd5bs (talk) 16:40, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
