redirection?
Why was it turned into a redirect to WoW? Why encouraging this marketing trick? --87.122.37.20 21:05, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, the redirect is ridiculous, especially considering that the World of Warcraft page says next to nothing about the internet phenomenon that it's become. Also, the character's been featured in tons of other games since then, so it's no longer solely a World of Warcraft thing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.147.138.250 (talk • contribs) 22:58, 29 November 2005
- I'd support a brief article on the Leeroy Jenkins phenomena in World of Warcraft because of the fact that it was a Jeopardy! question/answer recently. Redirecting to Warcraft does nothing to explain to people what this is about. --NormanEinstein 21:16, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
I disagree. I think the fact it does direct you to WOW is no different than if you were reading about Dizzy Dean, Barry Bonds or Babe Ruth and being connected to Baseball. Should Barry Bonds have a connection to movie Rookie of the Year since he had a cameo in that? Does Dizzy Dean need a redirection to Bazooka Joe bubble gum because he was featured on one of the comic wrappers?? The Leeroy Jenkins incident was spawned from the game World of Warcraft and it only makes sense this game should be connected based on it's origins regardless of profitable intentions or not. -Andy aka ResiduaL —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.188.247.6 (talk • contribs) 14:41, 31 July 2006

- I agree. It just lost another round at deletion review, but many of those who voted mistakenly thought it was just about the video or character. Not a valid opinion, IMNSHO. –Abe Dashiell (t/c) 00:33, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
At Least I Got Chicken
The quality of the video isn't exactly up to scratch, but I'm fairly sure he said 'At least I'm not chicken.' - which would make a touch more sense anyway... can someone check this? CitrusC 19:25, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

"Klingon Proverb"
I want to see evidence of this so-called Klingon proverb about chicken. Not only is it implausibly non-sensical and stupid, I have all of Marc Okrand's books and have never seen such a thing. TurboCat 18:03, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
- At the start of AMV (Anime Music Video) Hell 3, there is text that says "At least I have chicken" - Klingon Proverb. No doubt put there as a joke. That's the only place I can think of where it comes from.--193.195.185.254 20:53, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

NNNjenkins?
HE added a NNNNNNNGH in front of Leeroy I think. It sounds like he was imitating toilet humour which is pretty common for people to get "constipation" for humour. Verification? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.236.214.205 (talk • contribs) 06:37, 13 February 2006
- That looks completely stupid. It makes it look like an article written by a kid. It looks bad enough with the all-caps multiple-lettering format, but I can live with that. Isn't it enough to say, "LEEEERRROOOOY JEEEEENKIIINNNNNNSSSS"? I think adding the "nnnyhh" sound at the beginning looks ridiculous for an encyclopedia entry. I removed it once because, at first glance, it looked like vandalism, but apparently it was important enough to be added back. Wavy G 05:19, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Racism?
Am I mistaken, or is this whole character a giant racial stereotype? HELLO?! --yuletide —Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.233.136.248 (talk • contribs) 17:01, 11 March 2006
- Maybe it is, why would that be so remarkable? The video is nothing but a bit of comedy after all. 132.162.213.109 05:00, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- I think you're mistaken. Why's it a stereotype? Because of the chicken comment?
- Even if it is, so what? Surely in some countries people are still free to say what they want, whether or not some folks will be offended by it. Sukiari 22:03, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm confused. He's a character in a game. He doesn't have a race. I'm white and I love chicken. I would lord my possession of good chicken over anyone I met. I would especially use it to deflect or downplay blame. Maybe the person who is racist is you. Megan 02:24, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- In the video he is obviously a white human paladin with blonde hair. In various subsequent depictions such as in comics he is a dwarf with a brown beard, and on YTMND he has been portrayed as Martin Lawrence's character in Black Knight (for added effect). It's all well-meaning humor, don't worry.--Exander 06:46, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
- The racism issue definitely needs to be addressed in the article. "Leroy Jenkins" is a sterotypical black name from the 1970s. The reference to chicken makes it even more obvious.
- Just because some computer nerds refuse to admit this, doesn't make it any less true. These are some of the same people who brought us The GayNigger Association of America. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.121.72.200 (talk • contribs) 11:01, 15 January 2007
- What the hell are you talking about? How is it racist? I'm thinking that you are just looking too far into it.. lol. It was a joke, you are confusing it with the YTMND parodies made w/Martin Lawrence. "The reference to chicken makes it even more obvious."
- That to me, in fact is a racist comment on your behalf. Why not mention "watamelon" or crime while we're at it? Jeez.. learn to laugh and enjoy the humor in the video.
- Fr0 05:32, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm from Denmark, we hardly have any black people, and black is considered "cool" (unlike the "brown" immigrants we have plenty of). So I base this solely on the indirect US cultural references I have been exposed to. "Leroy" (never seen it with two e's before) sounds stereotypical black to me, don't know why. It certainly does not sound like a stereotypical MMORPG name. A reference to chickens also sound like it could contribute to someone building up a US black stereotype. I actually entered this talk page just to see if that had been discussed. I see that it hasn't, just moronic "I'm white and like chicken" and "you must be racist" comments. Well, feel free to call me racist as well, if that makes you feel superior in your (I presume) "white middle-class color-blindness".
Anyway, without an external reference any discussion of potential racism would be original research, and thus not belong in the article.--Per Abrahamsen 14:33, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
This article (http://www.westword.com/2007-03-08/news/the-legend-of-leeroy-jenkins/2), whose writer interviewed the player, states about halfway down the page that the name was picked expressly to be innappropiate for the character's ethnicity, which could be racism depending on how you look at it but really isn't, so much as it is poking fun at the idea of a white character named after a black musician. That wouldn't be any more racist than having a male character with a female name would be sexist, would it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.153.76 (talk • contribs) 23:07, 16 May 2007
When a white person acts black to get laughs, using a stereotypical name, the fried chicken thing, and even adjusts his voice, and those laughs stem from the fact that he is the rash and unthinking one among his sophisticated white peers, that is racist. The idea that saying "at least I have chicken" is a racist comment is one I find a little far-fetched. Are white people not allowed to like chicken now? I never had Leeroy down as a 'black' name, and Jenkins is from Cornwall and Wales. Maybe he just liked the names? lol --Beeurd (talk) 09:56, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

origin of "Atleast I have chicken."
The phrase as I know it is "At least I have Chicken." Where I heard it was in a recorded video of a multiplayer RPG PC game with players using ventrilo or teamspeak or some other chat software. And the person that said it also screamed "LEEROY BAGGINS". Not LEEROY JENKINS. the last name: BAGGINS, I assumed was a reference to the JRR Tolkien character, which would be fitting for the RPG they were playing in the video. This is the video I know this from: http://seppuku.ath.cx/whatever/videos/leroy_is_So_Stoopid.wmv

- Tell me how then? Because I've watched this video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7714643693602998196&q=leeroy&hl=en so many times and all I hear is "Naggins." Where is the "J" sound? 207.114.232.98 12:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
His freaking character's name is "Leeroy Jenkins". Discussion = over. 74.108.69.70 06:11, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I am sure that what he says at the end is "At least I'm not chicken" That makes sense in terms of his anti-heroic charge. The rationalization that he was away heating chicken has no support in the movie. Unless the creators came out and said what it was, I find it hard to believe it wasn't a garbled mistake.
The same thing happened with the "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" quote. No one will accept Neil Armstrong saying that it is misquoted--even though he ought to know what he said and they have carefully reviewed the tape and it appears that people did mishear a garbled transmission. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.171.212.100 (talk • contribs) 18:31, 12 January 2007
- If you check the links and citations in the article, there is one that will take you to an interview with Ben Schulz, the real-life 'Leeroy', who confirms that he was away from his keyboard at the time, reheating some fried chicken. He goes on confirm he said "At least I have chicken" --Crais459 10:54, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- Or you could just ask us, and we'd tell you Crais459 is correct. Osurak 17:39, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
What the hell is this?
I just watched this video, and I must say I don't get it. Sure, it's funny that the guy yells "LEEEROY JJJENKINNNSSS!!!" while the other guys are discussing their plan, but who or what is "Leeroy Jenkins"?
The article is unclear about this. Is Leeroy Jenkins a character in the game? Or is Leeroy the name of a guy playing the game? Are we supposed to know about this, because it makes no sense to me.
Secondly, I know nothing about video games. Let's get that out of the way first. Absolutely nothing. The last game I ever played was Super Mario Brothers, so I must admit, I don't really understand what is going on in this clip. Is this a recording that a bunch of guys made while sitting around playing a video game? Or is this some kind of online game where the players can communicate to one another over the Internet? Do these guys all know each other, or does anyone really even know? What is the audio from???
It would help the article make more sense to non-gamers if it explained in better detail exactly what this video is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wavy G (talk • contribs) 02:21, 26 March 2006

- Yeah, that's much better. Thanks. The only thing is (and I'm just asking for myself; I don't think any further addition need to be made to the article), does the game have presupplied characters (ie: Pacman is about the character "Pacman", "Mario Bros" is about "Mario" and "Luigi", etc.) or do you "invent" your own character? What I'm getting at is: Is Leeroy Jenkins just a character the guy playing him came up with, or is that like, just one of the characters you pick from a list to play? Again, I'm just being curious. Wavy G 03:21, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Leeroy Jenkins is just the name the guy came up with. All of the playable characters in the game are entirely user-made. --Cyde Weys 05:36, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Actually, Leeroy IS the character's name. He's the character who's squatting to the left of the group and spends the start of the video surrounded by a green circle. The player's real name is Ben Schulz. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.153.76 (talk • contribs) 3:13, 16 May 2007
Section on Anfrony
I really don't see that this section has any relevance to the article. Yes, it is attributed to Leeroy, but it doesn't have anything to do with the original video. By all means include the link to the P4L website, but I think the transcript of the Anfrony dialogue should be removed (in addition, the language is quite offensive)--Crais459 10:58, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
- -Yeah, it has no reason whatsoever for being there, I think it should be removed as well - will do so myself if somone doesn't sort it out by tomorrow. CitrusC 14:59, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Possibly his real name, but not his character's name. Could be a fake name that he decided to toss in the battle-cry. Fr0 09:52, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
The Plans
The plans discussed in the video are worthy themselves, in my opinion, of further discussion. They are designed to make the group look foolhardy to those familiar with the spells and items mentioned, although the humor can easily be completely missed by those who simply don't know how the spells work. Recognizing this, Pearson's "claim" as discussed on the Wikipedia page because clearly substantiated information rather than just undocumented personal theory. I believe that the plans are important enough to justify more information about these plans gets placed on the main page that discusses the video. Furthermore, seeking nuetrality (as per Wikipedia's NPOV philosophy), I suggest some rephrasing of the material discussing Pearson's claim. Specific examples and supporting information are available, including some proposed page edits. I've decided against editing the page myself, even though I didn't come up with the information (about the plans) myself, because adding the information sounded too much like "Original Research" prohibited by Wikipedia policy as I had just recently written an article on the plans of Leeroy's group. I decided I'd let someone perform the changes if anyone else agrees (or hopefully to respond if there is disagreement), which would be doubly better if such person happens to be more familiar than myself with some more of what is offered by the variouis WoW web community resources (for broader citing). This Video IS a Prank
Just for the record, there is no controversy over whether this is a prank. Why the article suggested that is beyond me. For proof, I submit this screenshot from the video itself. Note that the text in the chat box says "WIPE TIME!" I wish it were easier to see. I guess I saw a higher resolution version of it the first time I watched it.

- Also their dialoge is completely messed up. They talk about DIing Mages so they can AE but Divine Intervention disallows it's target to cast any spells. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.163.190.54 (talk • contribs) 00:26, 1 May 2006
The members of the raid knew that the room was difficult. That can be seen when the "chance of survival" is < 50%, and the first guy to talk says that the room has given them a lot of trouble in the past. Therefore, "Wipe Time" is completely normal thing to say if the video is not a prank. As for bad strategy, or not being able to AE with Divine Intervention, that can easily be attributed to the players just not being very good.--Rewguy 00:29, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- The strategy is not just bad, it is laughably self-contradictory. That's what makes it so funny for WoW-players. Among the truly ridiculous statements:
- Devout shoulders on a Paladin.
- Gather up all the eggs in order to AoE (spells that affect an entire area), but then using a skill that will scatter the enemies out of that area.
- Divine Intervention on the mages, so they can cast. Nobody can use any skills during Divine Intervention.
- Percentage of survival? That's a dead giveaway right there. What the heck does that even mean?
There is absolutely no way this is real. 71.228.12.3 (talk) 01:25, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Anfrony is the filmer, and has no spoken lines.
Jamaal: [talking to teammates outside cave] OK guys, these eggs have given us a lot of trouble in the past, uh does anybody need anything off this guy or can we bypass him?
Ritter: Uhh, I think Leeroy needs something from this guy.
Jamaal: Oh, does he need those Devout Shoulders? Doesn't - isn't he a paladin?
Ritter: Yeah, but that will help him heal better, he'll have more mana.
Jamaal: [sighs] Christ. OK, uhh well what we'll do, I'll run in first, uh gather up all the eggs, we can kinda just, ya know blast them all down with AOE. Um, I will use Intimidating Shout, to kinda scatter'em, so we don't have to fight a whole bunch of them at once. Uhh, when my Shouts are done, uhh, I'll need Anfrony to come in and drop his Shout too, uh so we can keep them scattered and not have to fight too many. Um, when his is done, Bas of course will need to run in and do the same thing. Uhh, we're gonna need Divine Intervention on our mages, uhh so they can, uhh, AE, uh so we can of course get them down fast, cause we're bringing all these guys, I mean, we'll be in trouble if we don't take them down quick. Uhh I think this is a pretty good plan, we should be able to pull it off this time. Uhh, what do you think Abduhl? Can you give me a number crunch real quick?
Abduhl: Uhhh.. yeah gimme a sec... I'm coming up with thirty-two point three three, repeating of course, percentage, of survival.
Jamaal: That's a lot better than we usually do, uhh, alright, you think we're ready guys? [interrupted]
Leeroy: All right chums, I'm (back)! Let's do this! LEEROOOOOOOY JEEENKIIIIIINSSS!!! [runs into cave]
-Short pause-
Forekin: [incredulous] ... Oh my God he just ran in. [runs in]
Ritter: Save him!
Jamaal: Oh jeez, stick to the plan.
Forekin: Oh jeez, let's go, let's go! [follows]
Abduhl [laughing]: Stick to the plan chums!

Forekin: Oh jeez, oh fuck.
Therien: Gimme a Divine Intervention, hurry up.

Leeroy [crying]: It's not my fault!
Forekin: Who's Soulstoned?
Jamaal: We do have a Soulstone up, don't we? [everyone dies] Think I need a Soulstone?
Abduhl: Yeah but I don't think we brought a Warlock.

Leroy Jenkins the evangelist
I don't play the game, and only find this interesting because when I was a child I attended the church of Leroy Jenkins the televangelist in Columbia SC. He's in Scottsdale AZ now. Colorful guy, typical televangelist. What is funny is that I distinctly remember him once serving the congregation fried chicken. --69.132.181.202 19:53, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
I used to live in Dallas and when I was there I remember seeing him on late night television once. It was great because he was giving out free "Miracle Water" which I of course obtained and used to creep out family/friends. I think at that time he was based somwhere in Eastern Texas. --Wootonius (talk) 22:40, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Statistical Probability
"The statistical basis for calculating a chance of survival is dubious, at best. However, it has been pointed out that this probability of success is possible if the guild had successfully completed the room 97 times out of their previous 300 attempts." - this note was added on 16th June 2006 - where did you get your figure from? how do we know the guild had made the run 300 times? Please state your sources or I will remove this section --Crais459 23:18, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- After reading that carefully, it doesn't appear to me that the writer meant the guild had done it 300 times. I believe he's saying that the guild claiming they had a statistical probability of could be a legitimate calculation if they had run this section 300 times and completed it 97 times. However, I don't believe this is a legitimate claim since the dialogue in the video implies that they have had, in the past, a very difficult time with clearing out that room, if the characters in the video had ever completed it at all (by characters in the video, I mean the characters that the characters of the players are portraying, not the characters of the players). --Polkapunk 18:06, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. The wording was slightly misleading, so I have altered the sentence a little to make it's meaning clearer--Crais459 19:24, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- The point is that by just hearing the plan, Abduhl can run the encounter in his head enough times to come out with a survival percentage. The video is asking for help since P4L can not beat the rookery.--Mirime —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.8.201.246 (talk • contribs) 21:46, 11 July 2006

This quote seems to be under constant change here. How about somebody who knows the actual (sourced) dialogue make a note of it here, so that prospective editors may reference this before making changes? Is there a source for the actual dialogue, or are we just beating a dead horse? Wavy G 04:26, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- I added the link to the original transcript when I updated the dialogue, as kindly provided by Mirime (see above). This is as close to an Official transcript we are going to get, I think, and since it is hosted on the P4L website I would say this is a pretty solid reference.--Crais459 18:21, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

If you listen to it closely and use common sense, he sounds like he says "Time's up", which may indicate his chicken is done in the microwave. With poor sound quality, "time's" can sound like "chums". The guild, Pals for life, indicate they do not even remember the exact words for the dialogue anyways.24.16.163.73 10:02, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

I can't believe you people are still arguing about this. The official transcript was released and is transcribed elsewhere on this page. Kilroy Stonekin
Why does Kilroy Stonekin keep putting his unimportant information into this article? It's simply a case of an utter MMORPG neophyte who needs to ride off the fame of others. Kilroy Stonekin, stop adding yourself to this article. You have nothing to do with Leeroy Jenkins, thank you. Glam guy 08:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- According to Guildwiki, Kilroy Stonekin is not a PC in guild wars, but an NPC in the game put there by the developers as a tribute to Leeroy Jenkins. I am not "Kilroy Stonekin," but I did put the information back in the article after you previously removed it. If you look at the image on the Guildwiki site, you can see that Kilroy is a dwarf. Players cannot create dwarf characters in guild wars, so unless this image has been doctored (which I suppose is certainly possible), this is part of the game, and not an "MMORPG neophyte riding off the fame of others." Furthermore, the guildwiki states that Kilroy gives quests, which only NPC's can do. Again, it's possible that this information is not true and was maliciously added to the Kilroy Stonekin article, but the fact that there are so many different people adding information to the Kilroy Stonekin article would suggest otherwise. Glam guy, why do you think that Kilroy is a person's toon and not an NPC created by the developers? --Polkapunk 17:16, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm I was wondering where the Kilroy Stonekin addition disappeared to since it is an obvious tribute to Leeroy Jenkins by the ArenaNet developers. As a Guild Wars player that's actually done this quest I can vouch what Polkapunk is saying is true, so I reckon it should be included. --Rambutaan 01:44, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Since Glam guy hasn't responded here or on his talk page, I'm adding Kilroy back in. --Polkapunk 14:59, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Kilroy Stonekins should be added somewhere maybe in Other sightings since to everyone who played Guild Wars this is obviosuly an hommage to Leroy Jenkins. --LaP 21:15, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Leeroy's Palliness
One of my favorite parts of this video is that shortly after they notice he ran in, and they approach the entrance, you can see Leeroy running past the door, with several whelps chasing him, and he throws up his invincible shield :) I figured this was just another dig at paladins by the movie makers. What would be an appropriate way to add this observation to the actual wikipedia article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crimson117 (talk • contribs) 21:55, 12 July 2006

- Even though this would probably be something that WoW fans could associate with, it would just go over the head of anyone who doesn't play it (e.g. myself). I think the beauty of the Leeroy Jenkins video is that it draws parallels to other MMORPGs and even other games in general (in fact the first time I heard about Leeroy Jenkins was while playing DoD, of all games), without needing to get into the details. I would leave it out IMHO. Rambutaan 23:42, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Important and pervasive cultural expression!
Deleting this article would be a huge mistake. This meme has had a huge effect, with usage going well beyond the original context of network gaming.
The meme started with the popularity of this video. The point of the video are not the specifics, but the way a character charges foolishly into a situation while shouting such that he and all his teammates are killed even though they have great powers and effective plans. The phrase itself does not have any real significance or meaning beyond the context.
Over time the basic idea behind the video has been frequently described and alluded to in popular discourse. This name is now analagous to famous traitors. For example, the name Benedict Arnold is still commonly invoked to represent treachery even though the vast majority of those who name him have little if any understanding of what he did to become so famous. In a similar way "Leeroy Jenkins" has become a common reference for foolish actions that harm others in various contexts. Just as the details of what Benedict Arnold did are worthy of record, so the history of the detailed story behind "Leeroy Jenkins" becoming associated with recklessness deserves to be recorded here. -- M0llusk 03:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

South Park Leeroy?
In the new South Park Episode Mystery of the Urinal Deuce, there is a new character named Lereoy. I doubt that this is a concidence, condisdering that the previous episode Make Love, Not Warcraft was obviously all about Warcraft.
Should we add the South Park Leeroy to the "Outside the Internet" section of the references? 24.25.131.211 00:26, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Leeroyetta Jenkins!!!
I think it might be worthwhile to add a mention of Fred Perry's Gold Digger (comic book) parody on the subject. It can be found in a section of his GD-tangent web-site, and I believe may have appeared in print at some point. In it some Amazons are having a similar discussion were it should be clear -especially when they spell out the odds of survival- to a rational person that they are in no way yet ready to engage the enemy. Just at that moment one of the Amazons charges into the creature's (an Abyssalisk) lair with the batle cry "Leeroyetta Jenkins!!!"
That's not what brought me here though. I was researching the Battle of Varna, when it occurred to me perhaps a list of historical Leeroy Jenkins would be in order. Just off the top of my head, besides King Władysław III, I think Maj. Gen. Daniel Sickles at the Battle of Gettysburg would be a possible example. But, I think some would dipsute that as although he made a bad situation much worse for the Union forces as a whole, it did not in fact lose them the battle (although he did do as much for his III corps, so maybe). 68.48.160.243 20:07, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Here is the link to the comic by Fred Perry. Aparrently she actually said LEROYETTA NNNJINKINS! (The extra exclamation points outside the voice bubble would most likely be interpreted as surprise from her comrades.) 68.48.160.243 16:08, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

What the hell --- hoax
How has it gone completely unmentioned that this video was a re-enactment of something that happened, not something that is really happening in the video. AKA, Leeroy was not really away eating chicken when this video was done. Quoting WoWWiki: The movie is staged. Even before a "Pals 4 Life" member was interviewed on a gaming news network and stated that it was an effort to make fun of "nerd guilds", people pointed out the various indicators for a staged event. http://www.wowwiki.com/Leeroy_Jenkins_(video) I'm really baffled as to how this has evaded being put in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mileslivingston (talk • contribs) 22:13, 21 February 2007

Unsourced Material
I see we are going through another "If it's unreferenced, it's out" phase. As I have said before on this page, the nature of computer games makes information on them very difficult to source. Personally, I believe much (but not all) of the recently deleted material should be replaced, if only because it seems that it was deleted as part of an arguement between two editors. I would like a concensus on this: should the material be reinstated? --Crais459 15:47, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Why was my Scrubs edit reverted?
I added the following text to the "Outside the Internet" section:
In the Scrubs episode "My Scrubs", Carla and Laverne conspire to switch JD and Turk's replacement taxidermy dog "Rowdy" with the real "Rowdy", formerly in the posession of Janitor. After Carla's long explanation of the plan to retrieve Rowdy from a locked car, Laverne replies, "Whatever. Let's do this. LAVERNE ROBERTS!" and promptly smashes the car's passenger window.
Was it placed in the wrong section? Was it not written in proper wiki-speak? Because it was a clear and obvious reference to the Leeroy meme used as a gag outside of the internet, and I thought that was where it should go. Can someone please explain?
Thanks, Tarkaan 03:56, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with Tarkaan in that this gag should be listed on this page, and that the Outside the Internet Section is the place to put it.

- You need a source from the creators verifying that it is a Leeroy reference (yes, even though it is obvious). Metao (talk) 01:11, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, there are plenty of reputable sources, no shortage there. I'm just trying to figure out if this is something we want to include in this article. Wikiport (talk) 20:27, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- I had a look around, and I could not find any sources linking Jenkem to World of Warcraft in any way. The Wikipedia page on Jenkem seems to imply that its use is essentially a myth. I am not closed to the idea of including it, if you can find sources that link Jenkem to Jenkins. Metao (talk) 02:03, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup
Things that should be adjusted in this article:
- This was a staged video -- it would be great if somebody could locate the source of the interview which notes this.
- "Leeroy Jenkins" is idenitfied to the real person who was playing the role. His name should be included.
The summary for the article is very misleading in general. See my first point above. One of those things I plan to help edit myself when I get more time... --Auto(talk / contribs) 03:40, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- You will never find an article that factually states the incident was staged. If you do, it is the writer's own speculation.
- "Leeroy Jenkins" isn't the guys real name. Did you read any of the article/source links?
- Look at the history, we get about 3 edits per day where random people completely alter it while completely ignoring the rest of the article /talk page Osurak 10:50, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
I note this because I distinctly remember reading it somewhere... I'll do the legwork, then.I knew I read that somewhere... [4]- Mis-understanding of wording... the guy's real name is known, and if it's in the article, then I glossed over it. I'm implying that his real name should be stated. Yep... it's in the article -- my mistake
- ... that sucks... I'll work on getting something together myself on a subpage. --Auto(talk / contribs) 12:47, 2 April 2007 (UTC) Updated --Auto(talk / contribs) 13:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Transcript
There's really no reason for the transcript to be here. For a start, dumping the entire text is not relevant to the article as a whole, and it violates the copyright of the folk that did it in the first place. I'm assuming that none of them have actually been editing this article to put them in (since that would be a WP:COI). Either way, if this isn't published elsewhere, it has WP:V problems, and otherwise fails WP:NOT#WEBSPACE. 81.104.175.145 13:58, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Several members of the Pals for Life have been editing this site, and its hardly a conflict of interest since they are the ones who know exactly the reasoning behind the entire video. Verifiability is all very well and good when dealing with academic subjects, but in the case of an Internet meme, expecting every thought, assumption, and conclusion about the video to be documented externally is ridiculous. In fact, half of the externally documented information about the video is self-published/incorrect/speculation anyway. It isn't like the article gains value simply due to a reference to a post on some random gaming website or blog. There have been a few interviews given by Ben Schultz, the man behind the myth, but anything other than those few interviews should be treated as being unverified.
- The transcript is posted on the official Pals for Life website.
- The video is not copyrighted, and I speculate that most likely it can't be without approval from Blizzard Entertainment, since the video consists entirely of in-game footage.
- I do agree that the entire transcript is distracting, however, an external link to the Pals web page has been (in the past) continuously removed/defaced. Attempting to regulate this page with any sort of accuracy is impossible due to the myriad of random anonymous edits that occur throughout the day. Osurak 22:38, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- "Several members ... entire video." If they made the video, they are directly involved in the matter at hand, therefore there is no doubt that it would pose a COI. Of course, some users manage to resolve or work around the conflict,
- "Verifiability is ... is ridiculous." It's not ridiculous, it's policy. If an article cannot meet the expectations, it cannot be in Wikipedia. Sad fact of life

. - "The video is not copyrighted". As soon as it was recorded, the video was subject to copyright. The need to register for copyright in the US was abolished around 30 years ago. The spoken words belong to those that uttered them (regardless of the pictures, which may or may not be derivative of WoW). Unless the transcript has been explicitly released as public domain, we couldn't include it even if it were shorter.

- Thank you for the irrelevant lesson on copyright law.
- Also, thanks for 'editing quotes for brevity'. I claim that in the case of Internet memes, expecting verifiability of each and every statement regarding such a nebulous subject is itself ridiculous, not that the official policy itself is 'ridiculous'. It goes without saying that you are welcome to attempt to verify as much as possible, however. The article could use a few more people defusing/blocking troll attempts.
- The article has survived several deletion attempts. While not scientific, historic, or factual, the video itself has become entrenched within popular culture (for example, it was referenced on Jeopardy) and therefore deserves a place on Wikipedia.

Osurak 22:26, 13 June 2007 (UTC)- "Also, thanks ... is 'ridiculous'." I haven't in any way implied that you suggested the policy is ridiculous. You suggested that a requirement for verifiability on the whole article was ridiculous - it is not. 81.104.175.145 23:03, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
