His rank
In episode 2.11 he is referred to as lieutenant by Commander Adama. Though future developments may change this back to Captain, should it be changed or mentioned in this article? Secondarily, why was he demoted in the first place? Starbuck becoming Pegasus CAG and her promotion doesn't necessitate someone else becoming demoted; she could be CAG and a Captain while he's still a Captain, as her being CAG would still establish her as a higher authority. When/why was he demoted? I seemed to have missed that. A good fix would be to have Apollo restored as Galactica CAG, as I don't recall that position being filled. --emb021 21:22, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- There doesn't seem to have been any reason for the demotion other than Starbuck's promotion(but I would think those would be mutually exclusive). Additionally, he was a Captain before even coming to Galactica, though it wasn't made explicit that he was a CAG anywhere, showing the lack of a necessity for a non-CAG to be a lieutenant. I'm just guessing it was an oops on the writer's part. Smeggysmeg 01:07, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
I guess its all a moot point now. :)--KrossTalk 17:08, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Cain demoted Lee because he was Adama's son. Even thought Lee is a solid officer, Cain saw him as a "Daddy's Boy"
Is there actually a list of ranks in the Colonial Forces? I recall in one instance Adama Sr. referring to the Chief of the Deck as the senior NCO so it implies they have a similar military structure as earth militaries. I mean Apollo jumps like four grades in two months? Somebody get us a reality check...
Also is there fanon or canon about whether commissions (other than Adama Sr. becoming Admiral) are official or field commissions?
- Yeah, Lee went from Captain to Commander in one episode... So unreal. StargateX1 02:46, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
- The list of ranks is here. It's a mix of real navy/army ranks. Lee was promoted to Major from Captain to be second in command on the Pegasus. We found this out at the beginning of an episode. At the end of the same episode he was promoted to Commander (skipping Colonel) after the Pegasus Commander died (in the Cylon trap attack). Since they have very few capable commanding officers left, and since Lee proved his abilities by saving the whole ship from destruction, it's not so "unreal" that he was promoted quickly. yeah only having two military ships cuts down who you can actually promote to different ranks.theres probably less than 500 officers left in the fleet with the experience needed also adama may of promoted lee because he actually had senority over the other captains left in the fleet or maybe as it is in navies usually only people who have specialised in warfare and ship operations can be given command instead of an engineer or logistics.Corustar 01:48, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
Lee's life
there needs to be a note about Gianne and his deathwish....
Fat
Did the actor gain weight or are they really that good with the makeup these days?
- Ronald D. Moore mentioned that they put Bamber in a "fat suit" during the "one year later" portion of season 2 finale in the podcast for the episode.--Mxg75 05:35, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- Katee Sackhoff mentioned in a radio interview that she was jealous of Bamber during the filming of the "fat" episodes because he was able to take a break from his rigorous diet and exercise regimen. She even went so far as to say he would eat doughnuts in front of her to make her mad. That said, he was only fat for about four episodes, so it didn't last long. Reduction of Rank
We don't know why he is now a Major, or if he really is a Major. Its possible his fighter was updated when he was promoted to Major and never since, or its possible he was demoted. Personally, I think Adama demoted Lee because Lee ignored direct orders (protect the Fleet with the Pegasus) and lost his ship (the single most valuable fleet asset they had). Adama is glad Lee saved him, but he can't exactly let Lee get off scott free for such violations. So he demotes him and puts Lee back in charge as CAG. Either way, that is speculation and we do not know the confirmed facts nor how the Colonial Navy worked. Alyeska 00:08, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
No ship to command. He goes back to his previous rank. Makes sense 24.196.81.209 00:30, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Thats not how most militaries work. Rank isn't necessarily an aspect of command. Even if he had no ship to command he could still retain the rank because that is what he achieved. Alyeska 02:22, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Maybe he never actually held the rank of Commander, and it was only a courtesy (it is tradition in some navies to address a ship's master as Captain regardless of actual rank). Someone will have to actually look at the insignia he is wearing in the first few episodes to be sure, but this is probably the most coherent explanation: he was promoted once, from Captain to Major. Slightly Drunk 06:37, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
If that were the case, Adama wouldn't have made a big deal about giving Lee a promotion and handing him the insignia. Ships captains are called captains but hold their true rank. Adama made a point of making Lee a "captain" not just in job, but in rank as well. Alyeska 19:39, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Aly on the rank theory (since I came up with it first :P). The paint used for his name, callsign and rank looked worn, like it hadn't been refreshed in a while. I think he was out there in his bird because he wanted to keep his piloting skills sharp. Also, I just don't see the good Admiral busting his son from commander to major, especially since the Galactica needs a commander. Afterall, Adama can't be there all the time and he would never know when he'll die. I doubt he'd want Helo (who would lack experience) or ole one-eye getting command.--KrossTalk 11:43, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
