NPOV violation

[edit]

This variation is often used by skaters whose normal layback leg position is somewhat weak, such as 9-time U.S. Champion Michelle Kwan.

Wouldn't this be a NPOV violation? Lmblackjack21 22:11, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can IP user (69.167.9.191) please make your edit clearer? Roller skate or ice skate? In figure skate, arm (leg...) position makes great artistic presentation at ANY elements. AIEA 18:40, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Men and layback spins

[edit]

Contrary to a previous version of this article, it isn't a "recent" thing for men to do layback spins. Toller Cranston was doing them as far back as the early 1970's, and perhaps there were other guys from before then that haven't made it into my video collection yet! Other guys who were well-known for doing a layback as a regular part of their spin repertoire in the 1980s and 1990s were Viktor Petrenko, Viacheslav Zagorodniuk, and Rudy Galindo. That's just off the top of my head, too. Dr.frog 14:05, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Catch Foot Layback spin

[edit]

I couldn't see any differences between "http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Image:Catch_foot_layback.jpg" and "http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Image:Alexandra_Ievleva_2005_Croatia_Cup.jpg". Does anybody can explain to me? If there is an difference, why don't you put different name or seperate them as the different variations? Monorete (talk) 21:06, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The image gallery already has a good selection of photos to illustrate the basic position and several variations. I don't see the point of continually reshuffling or replacing the photos, especially when the new photos are not of significantly better image quality than the older ones and/or do not show a position that is not already well-illustrated by the existing photos. I'm wondering if some of this continual editing of the photo gallery is fan warring by editors who want to feature photos of their own favorite skater -- if so, Wikipedia isn't the place for that, go make a fan page on your own web site! Please try to confine new photos to ones that are better quality or illustrate different features than the existing ones. For example, I notice that the gallery currently includes no photos of sideways-leaning positions. Anybody have any good photos to illustrate that? I agree. I think the use of images is getting out of hand on most of these element pages, including some bio pages as well. We really don't need a million Kim Yu-Na or Mao Asada images, especially when the images don't show a good quality position that well-illustrates the move in question. The image warring may also be suffering from recentism, but just because an image is newer doesn't mean it's better! Kolindigo (talk) 03:38, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
