No offspring?
[edit]This article doesn't seem to indicate that Wong has any offspring. MordukhovichAleakin (talk) 17:34, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- According to an article in the The Economist, he doesn't have children. Seloloving (talk) 18:50, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
National Service (NS) Obligation
[edit]Did Lawrence Wong did NS liability ? 42.61.238.48 (talk) 10:48, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
- I can't find any information anywhere but I think it's safe to assume that he did. Lawrence Wong is awfully private about his life for someone who's going to lead a country. His second wife is not even publicly known. So much for greater communication. I think it's obvious that it would be extremely bad optics on the PAP to make Singapore's fourth PM as someone who has never served NS, but even then no one knows. No one has spoken about having served with him in NS. MordukhovichAleakin (talk) 19:39, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Update: We now know who his wife is. MordukhovichAleakin (talk) 09:47, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
I've also looked for any information about his NS and there doesn't appear to be anything. The Economist article describes him as "the kind of bloke you could drink a beer with. That, at least, is the impression one gets from Singapore’s state-owned media, which have been full of glowing reports ever since it was announced, on April 14th, that Mr Wong will take over as leader of the People’s Action Party (pap)"
What's relevant about that quote is that state-owned media has been hyping him up, so why no mention of his military service? The PAP liked to triumph Mr Lee's dramatic rise from cadet to General, so is there nothing exciting about Mr Wong's NS, or is it absent?
- He turned 18 in 1990, and graduated with a bachelors from a Wisconsin university in 1994. Normally that'd be the time he'd have to return for NS, but he got a masters the next year. 9 years later, he got another masters. So did he do NS after his first masters?
Quite possibly, since he started work as a civil servant in 1997, so that'd allow NS after his first college stint but before what I believe is an entry level job.ItsRainingCatsAndDogsAndMen (talk) 15:48, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
