Picture[edit]

@BeacHal1, hello. I made this edit [1] per the date you put on File:Lauren Elkin.webp. But I wonder if perhaps you meant date of uploading?

Also, you do know that "Own work" in this context means "I took this myself with my own camera."? We are very careful about copyright around here. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:19, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I requested the picture from the writer. It’s on her website. She gave permission. I don’t know who took it. I assume she did but wasn’t sure how to credit that. And, yes, date of upload. BeacHal1 (talk) 11:04, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@BeacHal1 Yeah, I was afraid of that. Sorry, that is not good enough, these rules are strict, since there are legal implications etc (but it's a very common beginner mistake to make, you're not the first or the thousand to do this). The default assumption is that the copyright holder is the photographer, and that person has to give permission themselves (there are routines in place to do this via mail so it's not public for all to see). A WP user saying "[Subject] gave permission" is not good enough. If you have contact with the article subject, you can show them Wikipedia:A picture of you.
