From when is this poem?217.94.193.98 (talk) 10:43, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

″Bethsada″ Pool?

[edit]

The edition I have looked at (a reproduction at Project Gutenberg, bound in with Jim of Hellas), spells the name ″Bethesda.″ That includes a scan of the title page of that edition. Is this really a variant spelling among published editions?

This is the name of a character. Clearly her name, and ″The Troubling of″ in the story title, are Biblical allusions, and different translations of the Bible have spelled the name of the place differently. (And so it has come into English place names with diifferent spellings.) But I think this story, and this character, should follow the spelling used by the author. If that varies, it should be noted in the list of books. --Davecat4 (talk) 16:35, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
