[edit]

This page contains a minimal description and history of "Latin Metal", which by the way is more like a Regional Scene (similier to Bay Area Thrash or Florida Death metal). There are only links to 9 of the 13 bands that are provided.
Link #1 - A guide to music from the 70s, of which none of these bands were around then, and metal was in its infancy.
Link #2 - An article that makes reference to metal, latin music and metal from latin countries but does not use the tern "Latin Metal".
Link #3 - Makes reference to "Latin metal".
Link #4 - An article that makes reference to "Latin metal"... as a trend (as in regional scene), and cannot be viewed unless you wish to pay.
Link #5 - A line from an article that makes reference to "Latin metal" in describing a single band.
Link #6 - A line from an article that makes reference to "Latin metal" in describing a single band.
Link #7 - A guide to New Wave of American Heavy metal (which is a regional scene), that makes reference to metal from Latin Countries, not "Latin Metal"
Line #8 - Makes reference to "Latin metal" in describing a single band.
What we can conclude from this is:
2 links refer to Ill Nino as "Latin metal" (links 5,8).
1 link that refer to Puya as "Latin metal" (link 6).
2 books & 1 article that refer to metal from Latin countries but not "Latin metal" (links 1,2,7).
1 article that makes reference to "Latin metal" (link 3).
1 article that makes reference to "Latin metal" as a regional trend, not as a genre. (link 4)
- so "Latin metal" is only used 4 out of 8 times, one of which is refering to is as a regional trend, and 3 of which refer to it for only 2 bands out of the 9 that have provided pages/links. so out of the 21 pieces of evidence provided, only 2 bands can be refered to as Latin metal, and "Latin metal" is only refered to as a genre 3 out of 21 pieces of evidence.
I propose that "Latin metal" either be deleted due to lack of conclusive evidence, or atleast be changed to a regional scene/trend instead of a genre. or it should be put undo Folk metal.

This article is misleading. It suggests that most Spanish speaking Metal bands include tropical music in their songs, when it is completely the other way around. Actually, most Spanish speaking Metal bands play Metal the way it is played in Europe and in the USA, that is without any traces of local folkloric music.--Rivet138 (talk) 14:20, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Full of crap

[edit]

Baron rojo is a latin metal band? what the fuck? i read the first reference and i couldnt read anything about latin metal. I think that the guy who created this article wanted to put, as we say here, all in the same bag, i have no doubt about that sepultura, v8 and puya have something in common, they are latin american metal bands, but there is no way for sepultura being a latin band in the meaning the article sais since samba and tango are not a latin genres. V8 has never included any latin rithm though later one of its member formed another band that included tango but he has never used any latin percussion (tango has no percussion), Rata blanca has never ever made any fussion, baron rojo is not from latin america. If you wanna be accurrate please talk about latin american metal first and later about latin metal like this way: metal in spanish = Baron rojo + Latin american metal, latin american metal = V8, rata blanca, Sepultura, Criminal, transmetal, brujeria + latin metal, latin metal= puya + niño (2) fix this before i delete all the article.

This article was flagged delete in 2007 but has since been significantly improved and is now a substantial article. Can the marked for deletion tag not now be removed? -- Ishel99 (talk) 08:01, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, a different version of the article was deleted in 2007. The current version is currently up for deletion. If you'd like to express your opinion on the whether it should stay or go, please visit: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Latin Metal (3rd nomination). --ThaddeusB (talk) 14:31, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think considering it a full genre is pushing it too far. Look at the list of bands carefully.. "heavy metal from...", "nu metal from..." and Sepultura is Thrash Metal period. Should I.N.R.I be tagged Latin Black Metal too? My point of contention would be this; could German Metal also be considered a genre by these standards? We'd just say it has a Germanic flavor by pushing forward Rammstein as the ideal example and lumping in Warlock, Scorpions, Kreator, Lucifer's Friend - all plucked from different established metal genres - to prove our point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.83.185.118 (talk) 20:19, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Italy? Not Latino

[edit]

Pretty sure "Latin Metal" refers to metal produced from Latin American (South/Central American) countries. Italy is "Latin" in an ancient sense, but Italians are not Latinos, culturally or ethnically. Same goes for Spain, for that matter. Should probably take that section out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:85:4401:3CA3:C56C:7DF6:593A:2E48 (talk) 22:45, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Latin Metal" refers to any band that draws influence from traditional Latin music, regardless of the bands' origin, the Italian band that was there was there because of its Flamenco influence, the only reason why it is no longer there is because it did not have a Wikipedia article.

But i don't even think this page should exist anyway, it is hardly a fleshed out genre. --TenaciousDio (talk) 05:34, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hardly worthy of an article

[edit]

"Latin Metal" is hardly an established genre.

The vast majority of the bands here do not even draw influence from traditional Latin music, they are mostly just a random assortment of heavy metal bands that happen to be from Latin countries. That is not how music genres work. A band from Spain is not automatically Spanish Folk Metal.

Out of the very few bands that do actually draw influence from traditional Latin music, even less actually have a Wikipedia page,

Here are the only artists on Wikipedia that i know have some degree of Latin musical influence:

  • Breed77
  • Marc Rizzo
  • Angra (to a minor extent and only a couple of albums)
  • Mago De Oz (very minor, they are mostly Celtic metal)
  • Il Niño (have Latin influence, but are hardly metal anyway)
  • Tierramystica (minor Latin influence, mostly Andean influenced)

After extensive searching, here are bands not on wikipedia that have some Latin influence:

  • Flametal
  • Impureza
  • Raza De Odio
  • Arraigo
  • Taifa
  • Toccata Magna

So, roughly 12 total bands, 6 of which are actually on Wikipedia, most of which have only minor Latin influence... Does this warrant an entire article? If so, then why not also create a Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Persian, Mongolian, Turkic, Indian, Pre-Hispanic, Slavic, Nordic, etc Metal page? each culture here has a more established folk metal scene than Latin Metal. There are hundreds of Slavic and Nordic Folk Metal bands. They do not have a page, but a 'genre' with 5 bands does.

I think my point is clear. This page should either be deleted,... or trimmed down, and a page created for each other Folk category to balance it out, but the latter is obviously a lot of work and unnecessary when this information can simply be added into the Folk Metal page.
