Locations

I'd like to suggest a section on locations used for the series. Nora's house and Sid's cafe are well known but there are others, including a number of pubs, New Mill Church, Horn Hill etc that are regularly seen and would be of general interest to those from outside the area. Also, locations well away from Holmfirth have been used for many years and even locals like me sometimes have difficulty spotting the location. Any views or contributions? I think it's a good idea provided it's sourced from a reliable source; a filming guide or DVD notes or something like that, rather than observations by locals. --Ged UK (talk) 21:31, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Agreed with the above. If you want to do that, please source your information. Observations by a local would be considered original research. If someone has published on this, feel free as long as you quote your sources. Redfarmer (talk) 02:27, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
All noted. As facts on location are largely based on local knowledge and in the main unpublished, this would seriously limit the usefulness of such a section. Sadly,it seems also to rule out correcting misleading or simply inaccurate statements, which although technically adhering to the rules, is pretty unhelpful to Wikipedia users. Surely geographical facts cannot really fall under the banner of original research? JohnB57 (talk) 11:12, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
If you find inaccurate statements in Wikipedia, you're allowed to remove them, even if they're sourced. In such cases, it's normal to make a comment in the talk page of the article. After all, a source isn't reliable (in that instance) if the fact is incorrect! Bluap (talk) 17:35, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for that. In this case, I added two words "(in) and around (Holmfirth)" to clarify and made the appropriate explanation. This was reversed as I was unable to cite a reference so we now have a slightly misleading if not totally inaccurate statement, possibly based on out of date reference sources. Nobody's life - it's only telly after all! I'll leave it to the pros to decide how to leave it. JohnB57 (talk) 11:07, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Main Page request

Hi all. In case you didn't know, there is a featured article request page where editors can request that a featured article appears on the main page on a specific day. As I understand it, all FAs can end up on the main page, and this page allows editors to specify a particular day that is relevant to the article.

I don't know if we have any thoughts about whether LotSW should have a specific date to feature, or whether we're happy just to wait till User:Raul654 decides. Ultimately it's all up to him anyway, but he's developed a points system for specific date nominations. Perhaps for this article the original air date (4 Jan) might be appropriate. Any thoughts? --Ged UK (talk) 09:15, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Nearly all TV shows don't have any relevant associated dates, which puts them at disadvantage with the points system at TFA/requests. Many other TV show articles of FA status have also been waiting forever to appear on the main page (because there are so many of them), so I wouldn't hold my breath for this article to appear on the mainpage any time soon (for comparison, the TV/film mainpage FAs of the last few months have waited 9 months, 3 months, 21 months, 17 months and 24 months). But trying never hurts, and a little luck would certainly help. – sgeureka tc 10:05, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm a bit rushed to check atm, i'll try to look later, but are there significant anniversaries coming up? One thing LotSW has going for it is its length. I agree though, I know there are a lot of TV ones waiting to appear. --Ged UK (talk) 10:52, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
