Factual accuracy
[edit]I added the Refimprove and [citation needed] templates, because the very first phrase in the article "The language with the most native speakers in Taiwan is Mandarin Chinese followed by Taiwanese Hokkien" contradicts with numerous sources, including even the Taiwanese Hokkien page here on wiki.
I think the phrase should be replaced with the following: "The language with the most (about 70%[1][2]) native speakers in Taiwan is Taiwanese Hokkien (commonly known as "Taiwanese"), followed by Mandarin (about 12%) and Hakka (10%).[3].
Note that the whole page structure should be amended accordingly! 46.109.107.9
Edit war
[edit]Certified.Gangsta, I have no idea what you're battling over here. You're linking to a redirect and Jiang is fixing the link to a redirect as per Wikipedia policy. Don't revert. enochlau (talk) 00:45, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
I just realized they are the same article, but obviously someone is trying to degrade Taiwanese's legitimacy as a language.--Certified.Gangsta 08:45, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- It is standard convention to list all variants of the Chinese language as "NAME (linguistics)". Linguists like to call them "languages" while laymen like to call them "dialects". This avoids endorsing one over the other.--Jiang 10:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
English
[edit]Should consider adding English. It's taught compulsory from elementary school to most universities. And I believe it's used more often then Japanese.118.168.35.187 (talk) 19:15, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

No "simplified" mentioned?
[edit]Why there is no mention of "simplified" word on this article, despite having some connection with traditional chinese characters?182.0.143.25 (talk) 02:40, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
National Languages
[edit]There needs to be some explanation about the National Languages Development Act and how the Matsu tongue is counted amongst the languages of Taiwan by ministerial decision. Kaihsu (talk) 13:36, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
