LOTR

[edit]

Why compare with LOTR? LOTR's languages are FAR more developed than Dune's, FH didn't actually focus on lingustics at all but rather on how languages can be used as tools. JRRT invented his languages and fully described htem.

JRR's languages were not always fully described - only Quenya and Sindarin could be described as that.
More importantly, I think Dune beat LOTR to the punch as far as precedence goes; Dune was popular enough during syndication in 1963 in the US, and while Fellowship was published in 1954 in the UK, I understood that it took a very long time for LOTR to become a hit or even be pirated in the US. --Gwern (contribs) 16:17 29 April 2010 (GMT)

Redirect

[edit]

I have redirected this article here per the AfD, after merging some non-OR info into Bene Gesserit. Some other material located here is already adequately covered in other articles. Some of the study of languages previously under the heading "Neolanguages in the Dune universe" may be of note/approriate in other articles as well if and when proper external sources for this analysis are identified.— TAnthonyTalk 05:46, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
