Cruise Ship Charters

[edit]

From the given reference [[1]] on the Tui flight to Manchester, which appears very dear to edit warring IP user (starting with 2a02:c7d:a604:3f00....), it is clear that these flights are associated with cruise ship departures and as such fall well within the consensus at WP:AIRPORTS that says ad hoc charters should not be included. The meaning of Ad Hoc is here [[2]]. The IP user also really needs to keep their communication more cordial as their edit summaries are somewhat un WP:CIVIL.

I will leave this for a couple of days to see if there is any reponse - if not I will revert again.Andrewgprout (talk) 22:05, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As it tiurns out someone else reverted the edit talked about above however (currently) 2a02:c7d:a604:3f00:2875:6597:5ea4:81d8 appears to refuse to discuss this issue here (but quite willing to simply revert again). The issue is should charter flights for specific purposes be included in Airport destination tables. In my view and in current practice they should not - this sort of detail is way beyond the specificity required in a tertiary resource such as an encyclopaedia. Just for clarity the guidance at point 9 of WP:AIRPORT-CONTENT says "Do not include ad-hoc, irregular, or private charter services". Now there could be some discussion around private but the main problem here is ad hoc.

"Ad hoc means - to quote...

"for this" in Latin, and in English this almost always means "for this specific purpose"" "Ad hoc is a Latin phrase meaning "for this". In English, it generally signifies a solution designed for a specific problem or task, non-generalizable, and not intended to be able to be adapted to other purposes"

Cruise ship charters are clearly "for a specific purpose" and "non-generalizable" ie if I just wanted to catch the next plane to Thailand this would not be the plane for me.

And again a refusal to discuss - hopefully the massage got through this time, Andrewgprout (talk) 17:19, 12 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
