  • The way in which someone spells their own name is never a misspelling. It's a variation. Prior to a century and a half ago, the idea of standardized spelling barely existed in regards to common nouns, verbs, etc. -- and it applied even less so to the rendering of proper nouns as written words. Would you really tell somebody "you and your parents don't spell your name correctly?
  • It's not relevant to describe this as an "old name." How many "new names" are there? How long must a name be used before it becomes "old?"
  • All surnames are occasionally hyphenated (at least in French, German, English, Spanish and other European languages with which I am familiar) so it makes no sense to mention it without giving examples.
