Notable?
[edit]This article surrently lacks a claim of notability, verified by cites of reliable sources. Specific criteria may be found at WP:MUSIC. - SummerPhD (talk) 14:33, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Response re Notability
[edit]The editorial guidance of experienced Wikipedia contributors is appreciated by this contributor. Multiple external links citing 3rd party reviews, interviews etc have been added to the external links portion of this page, bringing the article into compliance with the WP:MUSIC Notability criteria. - Pharlan (talk) 02:29, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm going to be very frank here, because if these issues aren't fixed, the article will probably be taken to articles for deletion and/or reduced to stub for copyright violation:
- First of all, this article needs to be completely rewritten immediately in your own words. It is a virtual copy from http://www.lakesidesingers.com/BioPage.html which is of course, not allowed on Wikpedia. Even if it hadn't been copied, the tone is overly promotional and reads like an advertisement or press release, not an encyclopedia article.
- The current referencing to establish notability is not adequate. Of The "multiple external links", 3 are to web sites belonging to the subjects of the article: lakesidesingers.com, myspace.com/lakesidesingers, and robertbowker.com. One to is to an online local guide (centerstagechicago.com), where groups, artists, venues etc., can submit their own information and the copy is substantially similar to what appears in the group's own web site. Another is to a not particularly notable online publication (chicago-splash.com). The only one which might count towards establishing notability is the 16 minute feature on the local public radio station. But it's not enough. You need multiple reviews and features from at least the major local publications, e.g. Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune, Daily Herald).
- The subject only needs to meet one of the requirements of WP:Music, but so far the article doesn't demonstrate that it has met any of them. (Simply claiming that it has is not enough) I'll list just the key ones for an ensemble of this type here:
- It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician or ensemble itself and reliable (Reprints of press releases, promo articles, articles that simply report performance dates, release information or track listings, or the publications of contact and booking details in directories don't count).
- Has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country.
- Has received non-trivial coverage in a reliable source of an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one sovereign country
- Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important independent labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable).
- Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability.
- Has won or been nominated for a major music award, such as a Grammy, Juno, Mercury, Choice or Grammis award.
- Has won or placed in a major music competition.
- Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article.) Note also that it is the "Lakeside Singers" as a whole who must have done this, not its invidual members.
- Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network.

Removal of maintenance tags
[edit]If you are going to remove the notability and referencing tags, then some improvement should have been made apart from simply claiming notability. The references currently provided are not sufficient to establish and verify notability as I have explained in detail above. Nor has the lifted text from the official web site been re-written. If there is no material improvement in this article in the next week it will be taken to articles for deletion. Voceditenore (talk) 05:49, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
