FYI — while the information written here is sourced properly, it's out of date. Early this evening, I was talking with an acquaintance who is highly familiar with Logan County history and who is trained as an archaeologist; he told me that at least one mound was excavated and found (1) altogether to be without artifacts, and (2) composed of soil similar to that of a normal hill, unlike the strata observed in artificially-built mounds. Having seen as much of the island as can be seen from the road (and note that the island is narrow enough that one can see from one side of the island to the other from almost any spot on the road), I'm confident that the pictured mound is the only one remaining: I would guess that the owners of the others, upon realising that these hills were nothing except naturally-occurring hills, had them removed to get them out of the way. In short — these are simply small naturally-occurring knolls, not artificial constructions of any sort. I've tried to write the article in this light as much as possible, but it's hard to avoid getting into WP:OR when so doing; consequently, I've sought to demonstrate primarily what was believed in 1974.
