No mention of The OC?
Surely this article should mention The OC? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.194.48.226 (talk) 23:17, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
DVD Extras/LC's old house being tented
Anyone know why it was tented after the moved? Was it condemned?
Alex M's Album
Okay DO NOT REVERT. Its not vandalizm. The logs of the cancelation are already out on the internet and the cancelation has ALREADY been confirmed by Eyecon Enterprises/Universal
Cedric:
Just one question about cedric: Is he gay or not? There used to be this passage in cedrics description which said
"Channels decided to announce that he doesn’t fit the white-hetero-alpha-male mold of his Orange County peers. “Yes, I am gay, and I have a very supportive partner who repects me in all of my choices. My friends are aware of my orientation and are cool with it. It’s not a big deal for them.” "
Why has this been taken out? Whas it a fake?
Cheers.
^For whoever posted this, this statement is completely false I think I would know im his younger brother. Several of my friends sent me this link because they thought it was funny for this part as to how far from the truth it is. If you knew my brother you would know that Ced is literally the last person you would ever think to be homosexual.
The Real Laguna
They complain that they show doesn't depict the real laguna, like the kids at school or at school events, but they school bans them, so what can MTV do - the citizens cant have it both ways, they cant ban them from filming and then complain about what they show, would these kids really go to museums etc. voluntarily??? it shows what kids do!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.64.24.35 (talk) 09:42, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
- They complain about the drugs and tourist and stuff, but all towns have kids and drug problems, but the tourist was a tourist attraction before the show
The show is scripted
I live in Laguna Beach, and I know that MTV scripts the show. One example is when they go to Catalina. MTV shows that when they go to Catalina, one of the guys gets into a bear costume and "scares" the girls, but that never even really happened. What did happen, was they in fact did camp at Catalina, but they shot the bear scene in the canyon about a mile away from Laguna's town center. Also, I have seen the MTV crew setting up the cameras, lighting, and going over the dialog at cafes and restaurants way before any of the cast members even get there. So, obviously, the show is NOT "unscripted" Zraickenator 07:04, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
^ I disagree I know first hand that the show is not completely scripted, It is more guided. So during most events or conversations they would push the conversation to certain topics and maybe or if they wanted something to happen on the show they would ask the cast to do it but not how. stuff more along those lines very very rarely would they actually tell them to say certain things or actually plan something. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.90.18.160 (talk) 17:15, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Tessa
Do we have to cite about her illness, as she admitted it during the show.
Daly, Melissa. "my friend ditched me!" Seventeen Magazine Dec. 2006: 102.
Apparently, Tessa has a website now. http://tessakeller.com
The Controversy section
lol this section seriously reeks of stupid. there's sentence fragments, mispelled words and unsourced "facts" everywhere. but props to whoever wrote it because you gave me a good laugh. Jason slamming Alex H's head into a locker? LOL. one of the kid's living in a trailer park? Double LOL
- Try capitalizing first letters of first words in sentences and spelling "misspelling" correctly before "LOLing", kthanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.69.109.132 (talk) 19:18, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- We need a controversy section, but it needs a serious clean up.
- I heard about some of the things in that, but it needs more serious citings and stuff, is it rumour or true, come to think of it, we've never seen dieters house, and we've seen pretty much everyone else's.
We see dieters house with the at home bits on overdrive- its jeff - his house isn't really a trailer, but not one of the laguna mansion houses- he lives in a dun up garage but yeah its him. dunno abou thr amex m stuff.
We see dieters house a few times, like when kristin and jessica cook pasta for stephen and dieter
"Controversy"
There has been some controversy about whether the situations on the show are real, mainly due to the use of multiple camera angles allowing the crew to capture all the action, which some people have criticised as they feel in reality this would not be able to happen.
I understand this and agree, but where's the source? Who is raising these issues and how has MTV/the producers responded? User:TimSPC Aug 10, 20:00 UTC
Hmm, I'm skeptical that Laguna Beach is totally unscripted-- I think it's one of the most pressing questions about the series. I think it would greatly improve the article if this point were clarified. Smedley Hirkum 16:54, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
i live in laguna and went to laguna beach high school, the show is real to a certain extent. but mtv usually tells them what to talk about.
Another thing I find controversial is simply the title of the show. It is very misleading to call this "The Real Orange County" as it paints a fantasy land for teenage girls that doesn't actually exist. My cousins live in "The Real Orange County," and the only interesting things were the beach and the giant drainage rivers with abandoned shopping carts in them.
In the beginning of the show they say like that it's like all real and everyones a real charactor, and in one of the episodes i watched it said that it was liked based on an eight month time span.
In all the pictures they all look like best friends and then in the show Tessa and Raquel/Rocky are BFFS and Kyndra, Cami, Nikki, and Candance are friends but they hate Tessa and Rocky.
There is also a lot of animosity between the residents of the Laguna Beach area and the MTV crews. MTV's false image boycotts and sabotage I think the fact that Lauren Conrad is now the star of a known scripted "reality" show, The Hills, is also significant in deciding whether Laguna Beach is real reality or not.
- I think that at the very least the article should mention the fact that it is widely debated to what extent this show is a "reality" show.
- Simply listing things that make it appear scripted is of course the wrong way to go about it. But if there have been published, citable claims that it is fixed, then that should be documented on this page. Not even mentioning that there is wide controversy on this matter is a serious omission.
- By the way, has anyone done any actual research into the matter? If they have, and have not found any real evidence, then I can only say that MTV have done a brilliant job of hiding it.
- Gdickeson 15:48, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
- "Executive producer Tony DiSanto allows that as part of his "new form of storytelling." If a location isn't conducive to filming, the crew may suggest an alternative. Though he says footing the bill is uncommon, it "wouldn't surprise" him if it happened. "My big-picture philosophy is that with shows like this, I don't think our viewers necessarily differentiate between what's scripted and what's not. Our primary goal is to make a show that's compelling." From http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/2006-03-02-laguna-beach_x.htm. I'll be lurking around to see if anyone does anything with this. Mikeliveshere 06:15, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Kristin Cavalleri article nominated for deletion
Since, people who edit/watch this article, may know more about who is, and who isn't notable on the show, I thought I would mention the nomination (by someone else) of Kristin Cavalleri for deletion here, so people can have an input into it. Also, a general discussion here, of who is, and who isn't worthy of an article, might be a good idea, so the debate doesn't repeat for each member of the show. --rob 06:30, 8 September 2005 (UTC)
I think that she should stay because she was used in season 1-2 for a little and this should be moved to "time for clean up"-DogPHman
I think if anyone is notable enough to have their own articles on Laguna Beach, Kristen Cavalleri, Stephen Coletti, and Lauren Conrad are them. Kristen has starred in ad campaigns such as BONGO, modeled in various publications, dated Brody Jenner, etc.
Scripted?
The article says the second season is almost entirely scripted, but I've always heard it called a reality show and didn't know there was a change. Is this official, that it's scripted now, or is that just speculation? Everyking 07:46, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Not official, of course MTV would never stage anything would it?
But if you break the fabric, its definitly staged. For one, none of these kids ever have any "Real" concerns documented. Its just sex love and young.
No high school grade problems? Where are the parents the whole time, making hell for the kids?
Lack of real problems= something fishy.
Now add the lack of narration. Add to it the convienet camera angles.
This is the largest problem. Although all scenes are shot in a film quality reminiscent of reality shows, all of the characters always have perfect tans, they all have makeup. Not one of them ever curses (yeah right, todays teens? hell it could be 1980, or even the 70s).
No matter what happens if its juicy gossip its always on camera.
And notice, no one on the street, in this and "The Hills," ever notices the camera? Amazing, the film crews are obviously using better cameras than home video, so they are using the slightly larger Hollywood production cameras. Someone would notice this.
And since "The Hills" is just a spinoff of this, notice in episode 4 of the Hills, they enter an empty theater with no previews running in the middle of the night, at peak times, in LA? Hmmmm, thats odd. almost like it was cleared to shoot a show.
Face it, simple logic dictates this is scripted. All of these teens fit an archetype. In fact, I have a issue of TIME Magazine where they ran a column on this. All the actresses had to audition for the show, and it specifically says that "all characters fit an archetype." IT is scripted. Im posting that now. Before you take it down, if you need to know the date of that TIME article, ask.
One evidence....I have noticed that I have seen a Washington stare flag on one episode. Yeah and where's the parents, did the MTV producers kill them, or what?
Also, the very fact that there are multiple cameras on them at all times destroys any elements of reality. They are told not to look at the camera, people are not supposed to talk to them.
- This line will be taken out due to the fact that it has yet to recieve a citation. Let's all cry, and go on with our lives. ;__;--Blurrzuki 19:13, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Each episode is unscripted yet the "plot" is planned in advance.
I think everyone knows the show is edited for a storyline, like when alex h appeared on te show with her new tattoo, she had blonde hair, the episode before she had a new brown style, but in earlier episodes she has the blonde style she had in the 'camerons bday' episode.
One more thing
the end of the introductions says "It is the number one show among teenagers."
This does need citation, and until it is provided, Im taking that down. I've never seen any ratings or charts to prove that statement. Plus, its only on MTV, limiting the audience to cable, and this show has not gone worldwide, hence the statement does not represent a world view.
I agree with most of what you're saying, but the show has gone worldwide; at least, on all MTV stations worldwide...but still, it doesn't prove that it's the no.1 show among teens. LightPhoenix 22:21, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually, MTV is available on satelite as well, not just cable. Also, Laguna Beach Season 3 is available in full on MTV's website, widening the audience to anyone with an internet connection fast enough to view the program. I think it's important to note, also, that Laguna Beach is the only show that MTV has available in full it's website/broadband channel. The network also produces special "Laguna Beach AFter Shows" viewable only online. In other words, MTV is using Laguna Beach as it's main jumping-off point for it's venture into new media.
If you look at some of the episodes (season 1 is where I noticed most), some sections are definately edited - i.e when steven goes to the gym with kristin, one scene he has his gym shorts, next he is wearing jeans. Little things like that hint to me they manipulate their footage to make things seem more "juicy" or interesting or adhere to a fixed and planned plot

Yankees and Raiders
Why are the New York Yankees and the Oakland Raiders linked here? Unless the teams played a significant part in the series, the links don't belong, and there's certainly nothing in the article to explain it. -- ArglebargleIV 18:42, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Taking them out again -- is there ANY reason to include them here? -- ArglebargleIV 22:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I think the owners of both teams produce the show. Falconleaf
I did some searching, neither George Steinbrenner nor Al Davis is involved with the production of the show -- and even if they were, that wouldn't necessarily involve their teams. -- ArglebargleIV 19:51, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Jason Wahler
The following text was removed from the article:
"Jason has had many problems with the law due to his drinking and wild behavior.[citation needed] He had been caught driving under the influence of alcohol twice before the age of 18.[citation needed] He also had to briefly leave high school at one point to attend rehab for cocaine use.[citation needed] Some critics believed that his erratic behaviour on the show was due to his use of illicit substances, although this has never been confirmed. Jason failed his last semester of high school and decided not to make up the courses and graduate.[citation needed]"
I think that it should only be replaced if the sources can be found. On the show, Jason attended the high school graduation ceremony and according to www.myspace.com/jasonwahler1, he attended Arizona State for one semester before dropping out. -- Dcflyer 00:33, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Supposedly in August he and Lauren have broken up and its cause of a domestic/violent dispute and that Lauren notified the apartment staff to remove Jason if he comes on the premises.
Has Jason had relation with Talan or Tyler, or is it just people messing around??
Vandalism
It seems this article is always being attacked by vandals. Their antics usually include insulting the characters, insulting the show, (more recently) speaking of poop (*cough*), and other things. So, if this continues, I'll have to semi-protect it. --Blurrzuki 03:28, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ya, thanks for protecting it...
It needs to be protected again
someone is bad-mouthing the cast.
Talan's Birthplace
TALAN WAS NOT BORN IN CANADA. PLEASE STOP CHANGING IT TO ONTARIO. THE CALIFORNIA BIRTH INDEX LISTS HIM AS BEING BORN IN ORANGE COUNTY:
Clean-up time
Well, someone has made an attempt to better the article, but it's not looking too good. Will someone please clean it up without using "teeny-bopper" language, and putting in arbitrary descriptions of the cast members. Referencing episodes would be nice.
Also, the pictures should be smaller, so that the article becomes neater. Thanks. —Blurrzuki t - c 23:49, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Also, I don't think we'll ever know whether or not the show is scripted so delete that part please.
The character descriptions for season 3 characters were directly ripped off from the MTV Laguna Beach website. http://www.mtv.com/ontv/dyn/laguna_beach/series.jhtml#/ontv/dyn/laguna_beach/cast_member/cast_member.jhtml?personalityId=8078
- I agree about the clean-up. This is what I'll do:
- Trivia sub-sub sections 3.1.1, 3.2.1, 3.3.1, 3.5.1, 3.6.1, 3.7.1, 3.9, 3.10.1 will be truncated and made into their own subsection. I'll divide that one with just bullet points.
- Trivia sub-sub sections 5.2, 5.4, 5.6, 5.8 will also be truncated and made into their own subsection.
- I did that stuff. --Cliff smith 16:43, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- If some one wants to do some research and wants to watch season 3 again when ever they want, go to youtube.com and do a search. its kept pretty upto date, with some people uploading the new episode each week :) --121.44.33.205 06:05, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
The myspace links don't work and I'm going to see which ones work.(Yup the only ones that dont work are the myspaces and I am gonna delete them)-DogPHman 04:11, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
NPOV
This article is a flagrant advertisement for this show - it's not fit for wikipedia. BlackberryLaw 22:21, 17 October 2006 (UTC) E.G...... mention here what you thinks biased before you change anything
The "Reality" of the Show
Wasn't it exposed that this show is a staged reality show, despite MTV's efforts to cover it up? I've read many places that it is all an attempt to cash in on the "reality" craze among adolescent girls. 205.240.78.20 22:57, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
No. It was never exposed as staged. It is heavily influenced by producers, but America is kidding itself if it thinks that any reality show isn't. Even documentaries and shows like MythBusters have just as much staging as LB.
Season 3 Cast
Neads serious citiations - theres alot of info thats needs to be backed up
opinonated much?
whoa, i think there's way too much opinion-based information given in this article. for example:
"Cameron is your typical bad boy player and is quite possibly the butt ugliest boy to ever appear on Laguna Beach."
and also the information given about Kyndra Mayo. Whoever last edited the cast page needs to get a life. I know the cast have eased into the roles of 'good guys' and 'bad guys', but the cast descriptions are seriously skewed against Kyndra (Creamcheese? Come on), while the same loser is obssessing over Lexie ("By FAR, the most lusted after cast member"). Immature much? Take it to a message board where it's appropriate, and don't try to pass your opinions off as fact.
if people really think that way about them, they should just post it in the message boards. there is no need to give out false information, especially those that are opinion-based.
those specific parts seriously need to be reviewed...
Use of the term White American
White-American is a strange term to use. Why not use terms like Germanic or English instead? They would be more easily understood. Nowadays, White-American includes Italian-American. Dyl 10:28, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I guess if the ancestry is undetermined or multiple backgrounds (i.e. a "mutt"). Not that much different than the term "African-American". It would probably be hard to find out if Cami, and most African-Americans in general, whether they were Yoruban, Wolof, Hausa, Akan, etc.
Cheers.
- The Term should Caucasian, Anglo, or European but not American. The only true Americans are the ones with indigenous American ancestors. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Califman831 (talk • contribs) 23:27, 17 April 2007 (UTC).
- Dyl raises an interesting point. White-American, or White-<nationality> is often percieved as racial profiling or stereotyping by people concious of such things. The term African-American as raised by the unsigned author above is not on par with White-American as would be Black-American. Africa is a region. The label of African-American, as an Australian, is quite perplexing given that I'm quite sure there are many white African's living in America too, yet this label seems a politically correct version of Black-American to avoid the exact effect that White-American--as logic and reasoning would follow--would have. This is exactly why labels as a whole shit me due to their inaccuracy. Although European-American would possibly be the better utilisation, following contemporary American cultural trends as I percieve them. I may be wrong however. Yet that being said I strongly disagree with that which Califman831 has said that 'American' should not be suffixed due to the fact only indigenous American's should have that right. That itself is a flawed argument and bordering on bigotted. Jachin 13:57, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Nicki
i've seen the pictures of her with jason - whats this about a-clinic - that is some serious stuff that needs citations —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.64.24.35 (talk) 22:27, 10 February 2007 (UTC).
Season 4
is it happening or not??? whats the deal??!!?? I'd like to know that to! is there any information? let us fans know!
No- Season 4 is not happening. The show has been cancelled. Who ever cleaned up this article (finally), good job!

External Links
I am the sole owner of my blog, http://lagunabeachthehills.blogspot.com, which has been very successful since its recent establishment. I added the link under External Links to both The Hills page and the Laguna Beach page on here, but it was removed and I was told not to post 'spam links' - I then looked at the help page for adding external links, and it said that any link relating to any part of the article can be added, particularly if it includes things that cannot be said on Wikipedia for copyright laws (e.g. interview transcripts). My site is exactly like that and, whilst it was featured as an External Link, I received many hits to my blog from Wikipedia users. I think it is quite unjust to call it a 'spam link' and to remove it as it fully complies with the criteria recommended for an External Link. I would really appreciate it if someone could look at this.
I have had MTV staff e-mail me about features that they have wanted me to feature on my blog, too, so I know MTV is in favor of my blog - if that makes any difference to whether or not it can be considered for an external link I don't know, but I thought it should be mentioned.

Was Chase Johnson portrayed as a senior in the show?
He was really a junior during the third season.
