Lachlan became a Next Star in his second season with Illawarra after AJ Johnson was drafted likely because there is only one Next Star roster spot. I can't find a source but I also believe he chose the 3 year deal with Illawarra over multiple shorter offers from other NBL clubs. He also has some involvement with the NBA Global Academy in 2021. 2001:8003:365F:B300:58BC:E2D:B001:1E9A (talk) 01:44, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There appears to be confusion around the Next Stars claim. Australian Associated Press via ESPN is saying that he was a Next Star in 2023–24 [1] but AAP via the Illawarra Mercury states specifically "While not signed to the NBL's Next Star program" [2]. There is no supportive material to suggest he is a Next Star in 2024–25. The NBL makes no claims of him being in the program, merely that he is ready for a breakout season [3].
