Size of the labyrinth

The article says The square labyrinth's size determines the complexity and length of the game. Sizes range from 4 by 4 inches (100 mm × 100 mm) to 10 by 10 inches (250 mm × 250 mm) or 12 by 12 inches (300 mm × 300 mm). That doesn't make any sense. While the actual number of squares obviously determines the complexity and length of the game, surely the actual physical size doesn't matter, does it? The game doesn't get more complex if I draw the squares 2 by 2 cm instead of 1 by 1 cm.
