Verifying sources?

[edit]

Hey @PharyngealImplosive7, thanks for creating this article! I wanted to ask if you could add page numbers to the sources, since I wasn't able to verify that each claim is supported by the adjacent reference. I'm being a bit nitpicky in requesting this, but in one instance I do suspect the original text was incorrect. The Levinson article seems to make a weaker claim about Yele's uniqueness (p. 43) and Ladefoged seems to suggest that Arrernte has these sounds too (p. 357, Table 10.10). But please correct me if I'm making a mistake! Botterweg14 (talk) 23:15, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Botterweg14: Thanks for reviewing the article! The sounds in Arrernte are not co-articulated; instead they are labialized versions of retroflex consonants, versus actual labial–retroflex consonants. About the Levinson article, it still states that the author thinks that the language is unique with its labial–retroflex consonants. – PharyngealImplosive7 (talk) 23:45, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Aha, so I did make a mistake! Thanks for clarifying that. Then I guess the only "live" part of my comment is just the request for the page numbers. Botterweg14 (talk) 00:20, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
