Until 1999

[edit]

I am surprised by the sentence:

"Until 1999 the paper was widely perceived as pro-catholic."

Can anyone cite a source to explain the words "Until 1999"? Why did the perception change (suddenly)? The assertion seems dubious to me. I thought it was still rather pro-catholic. Thanks. --Edcolins 06:50, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why 1999 was chosen, but clearly La Libre is not pro-catholic anymore. It is actually now often quite critical about the Catholic Church and it is regularly criticized by the right-wing for its pro-islamic positions. --Jacques de Selliers (talk) 10:19, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

La Libre Belgique's alleged stance

[edit]

This is a copy of the phrase which I have removed from the article:

"It supports Iran's president Ahmadingad calling for the extermination of Israel. It is a dangerous Antisemitic newspaper."

The user 80.230.215.228 who had inserted it is welcome to state his case here. RedZebra 14:03, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, RedZebra. Indeed, such unreferenced statement must be removed from the article. --Edcolins 08:07, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
