Merge proposal

[edit]

Closely related topics best discussed together: EBU R 128 and LKFS. This proposal arose from an earlier discussion from Talk:European Broadcasting Union#Merger proposal. Klbrain (talk) 15:30, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Closing, given the uncontested objection and no support. Klbrain (talk) 10:54, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

K-weighted

[edit]

For an acronym that has K-weighted as one of the components, it sure makes sense to define just what K-weighting is. What is it? Why is that left out of this article? ThreeRocks (talk) 02:51, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Phrasing

[edit]

the sentence:

"LKFS and LUFS are identical in that they are both measured in absolute scale and both equal to one decibel (dB)" seems odd.

LKFS and LUFS are not equal to one decibel. They both use the unit of decibel.

Measured in absolute scale? what does that mean? Better leave that out.

Would you mind if I rephrase? Bert Kraaijpoel (talk) 23:37, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Bert Kraaijpoel (talk) 16:57, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bert Kraaijpoel, what's your proposal? ~Kvng (talk) 16:30, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I know it is only a naming issue. LKFS stands for Level, K-weighted, relative to Full Scale.
In LUFS (Loudness Units relative to Full Scale) the K-filtering is not apparent in the naming, but LUFS are definitely K-weighted.
Maybe even best to leave the whole phrase out. But it is good to mention the dB scale
I would rephrase to something like:
"The LUFS use a decibel scale" Bert Kraaijpoel (talk) 19:14, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think what needs clarification is the relationship between LUFS and LKFS. We start with (LUFS) is a synonym for LKFS when LUFS is first introduced and then the rest of the article seems to back away from that. I know that in practical terms, the readings are interchangeable but the article gives me the impression there are some definitional details that differ. ~Kvng (talk) 22:53, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would have to dive into that again. It has been a while... Will get back to you Bert Kraaijpoel (talk) 10:49, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
