LIAT alliance Virgin Atlantic section
[edit]It would appear that Virgin Atlantic do not have a baggage transfer agreement with LIAT. Bags have to be checked in again at the airport e.g. Antigua. Passengers have to go through immigration, pick-up bags, go through customs, check-in baggage at LIAT desk, go through emmigration and security checks. The reason for this is the differing baggage allowances between the two airlines. A full allowance on Virgin Atlantic would result in an excess baggage charge on LIAT. The following was received from Virgin Atlantic customer services (17/11/2011):
e-mail: customer.services@fly.virgin.com Enquiry Ref: 1334008/CCUCRW/1
"Virgin Atlantic does not have an agreement with Liat for your bags to be checked through, so you will need to check your bags in separately for both flights. I would also advise to check Liat's baggage allowance, as it may be a different allowance to our flight."
I can confirm this is correct having transferred through Antigua on 20/01/2012
If an alliance agreement does exist I think it needs to be clarified.

LIAT appears to have recommenced scheduled operations?
[edit]I've recently seen reports of LIAT having returned as a new company, LIAT (2020). I haven't edited the article as I am unsure if this article is only supposed to contain information about LIAT (1974), or about the airline in its entirety. Apparently it held its inaugural flight on 6 August.
Here are some of the reports I have seen:
- https://caribbean.loopnews.com/content/liat-2020-launches-operations-inaugural-flight-today (6 August 2024)
- https://antiguanewsroom.com/liat-2020-set-to-soar-first-flight-marks-new-chapter/ (6 August 2024)
- https://antiguaobserver.com/barbuda-airport-nears-completion-set-to-welcome-liat-2020s-first-flight/ (19 July 2024)
