Laws in Franco's regime

[edit]

The introduction of the article is wrong: Homosexuality was highly illegal under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, with laws against homosexual activity vigorously enforced and gays being imprisoned in large numbers. There weren't laws against homosexuality. Citing from http://www.glbtq.com/social-sciences/spain.html : Laws forbidding the publication of information dangerous to the public good, the congregation of persons contrary to public morality, and actions that resulted in public scandal were used to intimidate, harass, and arrest gay men and lesbians, as well as transgendered persons. --Ecelan 20:14, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not quite wrong, as I have expanded in my edit. I am Spanish and my quote is an accurate translation of the 1954 amendment to the Vagrancy Act as linked --Candeira 02:35, 7 August 2006 (UTC)r[reply]

To do: In 1970 the 1954 Vagrancy Act was replaced by the Ley de Peligrosidad Social (Social Hazard Act). According to source above, homosexuality was punished with up to 3 years in jail, but that should be checked with the BOE (Official Spanish law registry) before editing. --Candeira 03:01, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that it should be mentioned that victims of oppression during Franco's time are now being compensated by the spanish government. There is information here [1] (Pi 00:22, 20 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]

It should, when it finally happens. As you can read in the article, it's something the Minister of Justice was considering. Alas, elections came and he resigned so he could run for mayor in Canarias. There is a law of historical memory in the works that should include some mention (and compensation) of gay victims, but it promises to be extremely controversial (the Civil War is still very taboo in Spain). No idea when it will be legalised (perhaps before the general elections in March, perhaps not). Cheers Raystorm (¿Sí?) 10:35, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to edit this, but the Leopoldo Alas mentioned in the text is not the famous 19th century author to whom the name links - he's a great grandnephew of him who's living now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.45.173.158 (talk) 20:51, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is by far the worst article I've seen on wikipedia. It's written like a 12 year olds research paper. It's subjective, biased, and just awful. It can't even be saved it needs to be deleted. Jackson Doty 07:22, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

[edit]

I've removed a POV template with no talk page discussion, per the instructions on that template's page:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

If editors are working toward resolution of any issue and I missed it, however, please feel free to restore. Cheers, -- Khazar2 (talk) 03:56, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

False claim - provided source says the opposite

[edit]

Under "Bias-motivated speech and violence" it says "Hate speech on the basis of both sexual orientation and gender identity has been banned since 1995" when the provided source for that states the exact opposite (hover over the "i" next to "Hate speech law" and read the description). That part should be changed/corrected. Billy7 (talk) 04:15, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Redundancies regarding the self id bill

[edit]

If anyone wants to go through and organize the information in this article regarding the self ID bill, that’d probably be very helpful, as it’s currently rather scattered. Snokalok (talk) 13:57, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
