"Very short history"
[edit]What is "Homosexuality has a very short history in Bangladesh" supposed to mean? Lack of sources aside, how do you define "a very short history" in temporal terms? Recorded history is one thing, but how can homosexuality as a whole be a "recent thing" in a country? BirdCities (talk) 23:58, 4 May 2021 (UTC).
Overgeneralizations, lack of sources, lack of gender identity discussion
[edit]"Bengalis have always been conservative and prohibition-minded" seems like a gross oversimplification of LGBT history in Bangladesh / the Bengal region and doesn't include any source. I think this summary should include a few specific policies or documentations of lgbt recognition, rights, or abuses from the different eras of Bangladeshi/East Bengal era.
Otherwise if there's a lack of documentation, I think leaving the previous paragraph alone is enough. Maybe in addition to saying "currently lgbt discrimination is still widespread" with mention of "Third Gender" recognition for the Hijra people would be a good way to acknowledge current issues without overgeneralizing bengali history.
I think this article should include more mention of gender identity and how that evolved pre- and post-colonial era since the hijra people have been around a long time here. Right now this article only seems to acknowledge the sexuality part of the lgbt community. 2607:FEA8:AA23:9100:11F:791:B47C:54D7 (talk) 00:31, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
