Why is the Championship League listed twice with different results?

Current ranking

[edit]

He's currently (as of today) ranked 22, not 55... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.41.251.96 (talk) 18:09, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a script running in the infobox that relates to his current ranking? I seem unable to edit it to change from 12 to 3 Billsmith60 (talk) 09:52, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's updated at Template:Infobox snooker player/rankings. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:55, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd actually like to script it and move it off to WikiData, but it's slow going. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:56, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant, thanks! Billsmith60 (talk) 00:06, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Copyvio and plagiarism check
  • Checked through all matched above 5% using Earwig's Copyvio Detector, no issues.
  • Images
  • No issues.
  • Infobox
  • Source for date and place of birth?
  • Career winnings - uncited
  • Century breaks - uncited
  • Lead
  • Remove "Having won almost £2 million in prize money" unless a reliable source is found.
  • "an additional two more ranking events at the 2018 Paul Hunter Classic" - re-word or add some punctuation
  • Career
  • Early career (2009–13): "During the 2009–10 season, Wilson won the sixth event and was runner-up in the third event of the International Open Series and finished fifth in the rankings." didn't read well to me. There are a few options, e.g "Wilson won the sixth event of the International Open Series, after winning..." or "Wilson finished fifth in the rankings in the International Open Series after..."
  • Early career (2009–13):"won the sixth event and was runner-up in the third event" isn't explicit in the source. This could be inferred from the points recorded on the source, but additional references would be ideal.
  • Early career (2009–13):"finished fifth in the rankings." - source (at 6 March 2010) has him third.
  • Early career (2009–13):"This gave Wilson a place on the World Snooker Tour for the 2010–11 snooker season" not verified by source
  • Early career (2009–13):Refs 4 and 5 are the same page with different archive dates, but both as at March 6, 2010; can probably re-use one or the other.
  • Early career (2009–13):"good qualifying results" and "the two most prestigious ranking events on the snooker calendar." are uncited.
  • Early career (2009–13):"reached the same stage" and "in the third round" not clear from source, which says he won two matches, but that they were in rounds 4 and 5 (whereas UK wins were in rounds 1 and 2)
  • Early career (2009–13): "outside of the top 64 who retained their places for the next season" not verified by source
  • Early career (2009–13): Repetition of "in an attempt"
  • Early career (2009–13): "In an attempt to regain his position, Wilson entered Q-School in an attempt to win back his place but, despite having deep runs in each of the three events, he could not achieve this." not really verified by source, which is just the results.
  • Early career (2009–13): "He entered all 12 of the Players Tour Championship events" - source doesn't verify that there were only 12
  • Early career (2009–13): "where he lost in the last 64 on five occasions" source does not say whether the rounds were "last 64"
  • Early career (2009–13): "confined to entering PTC events" - source includes "ET" as well as "PTC" events.
  • Early career (2009–13): "Kay Suzanne Memorial Trophy" - this name isn't used in the source, which has it as "UK PTC 4"
  • Early career (2009–13): "lost in the last 32 in two European Tour events" This could be inferred from the points recorded on the source, but additional references would be ideal.
  • Early career (2009–13): "high enough to earn a place back on the snooker tour for the 2013–14 season." not verified by source
  • 2013–2014 season: I think the word "abrupt" could be removed.
  • 2013–2014 season: "experienced campaigners" should be either removed or cited.
  • 2013–2014 season: "debut appearance at the Crucible" is uncited
  • 2014–2015 season: Daily Telegraph source should be marked as subscription. (I'm assuming good faith.)
  • 2014–2015 season: "Wilson broke into the top 64 in the rankings for the first time" - uncited
  • 2014–2015 season: "In the last 16" - source doesn't say it was last 16
  • 2015–2016 season: "Irish amateur" - "amateur" not verified by source.
  • 2015–2016 season: "He qualified for the World Grand Prix" not verified by source.
  • 2015–2016 season: "However, Wilson then took the two.." suggest deleting "However" - it reads strangely to me to have this in addition to the "but" later in the sentence.
  • 2015–2016 season: "placed in the top 16 for the first time" not verified by source.
  • 2016–2017 season: "marked the first ranking event final in five years to feature two players under the age of 25" not verified by source.
  • 2016–2017 season: "5–1 in the quarter-finals of the China Open" - score and round not verified by source.
  • 2017–2018 season: "Wilson made his first official Maximum break, the 133rd in competitive history, to force a decider against Martin Gould in the second round of the International Championship, but eventually lost 5–6." is uncited.
  • 2017–2018 season: "Wilson also reached two ranking finals that season, losing to Ding Junhui and Ronnie O'Sullivan, and also enjoyed his career-best run at the World Championship as he reached the semi-finals (beating Allen 13–6 in the last eight)" is uncited.
  • 2018–2019 season: "his former mentor" not verified by source.
  • 2018–2019 season: "Wilson beat world champion Mark Williams and Judd Trump by dropping only a frame in each match, before defeating Masters Champion Mark Allen, to face Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final" is uncited.
  • 2018–2019 season: "He made quarter-final appearances at three further ranking events before the end of the season, at the World Grand Prix, the Tour Championship, and the World Championship." not verified by source.
  • 2019–2020 season: "where received a bye" - missing "Wilson".
  • 2019–2020 season: "The 2020 World Snooker Championship was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where received a bye for the first round due to Anthony Hamilton withdrawing from the tournament. Wilson defeated Martin Gould in the second round, defending champion Judd Trump in the quarter-final" is uncited.
  • 2019–2020 season: "and narrowly defeat" - reword
  • 2019–2020 season: "During the semi-final in victory he was emotional apologetic" - reword
  • 2019–2020 season: "In the third session Wilson started strongly with a break of 73 but he would lose 8 successive frames to end the final with an 18–8 defeat to O'Sullivan." not verified by source.
  • Personal life
  • I've removed unsourced information. This can be added back in if there are reliable sources.
  • Performance and rankings timeline
  • No source cited. (maybe snooker.org would be appropriate?)
  • Seems a little strange to keep 2011/12 and 2012/13 in the table, even with the note. Consider removing these columns, or additional visual indicator (e.g. different colouring for those years in the header column.) Not a big issue, so not necessary to change this if it's a large task to adapt the template.
    • It is because they played in tournaments during these years (specifically the Players Tour), that is why they have those seasons in the table. If they had played in none of the tournaments, the seasons wouldn't be on the table. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 07:22, 21 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Career finals
  • Ref 69 doesn't seem to actually be in Norwegian
  • Ref 75 (SnookerHQ) - add author
  • World Snooker - update url to the redirect (at wst.tv). Could update description to say World Snooker Tour (although not necessary, as this is a trading name of World Snooker)
  • The Global Snooker link has old info and won't be updated. Maybe add something like "as at December 2010"?
  • Thanks, Lee Vilenski. Frustratingly, I can't find reliable sources for these. The prize money is quite different from his "money list earnings" at his WPBSA profile, perhaps because they are different measures. (Is money list only from ranking events?) I think these will have to be taken out, which is unfortunate as I'm sure many readers would like to see the information. Any ideas? Other than that, I've added a couple of minor points about the lead. The changes you've made all look good at first viewing. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 09:31, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
