Citation #41 should not be a proper citation to confirm two of Kurt's uncles committed suicide because it is from an unverifiable source. If this information is believed to be fact, obituaries or autopsies should be cited. Capshockey29 (talk) 07:07, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
- The source appears reliable to me in this context; do we have any reason to believe that Beverly Cobain was lying? DonIago (talk) 14:12, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
Valid point being ignored: New documentary "Soaked in Bleach"
As a user made a valid request that up to this day has been ignored, I am just going to quote this request and hope someone will look into it:
"A documentary from 2015 called Soaked in Bleach should be added to the section "Books and Movies on Kurt Cobain". It deals in detail about the suspicious death of Cobain, focusing on the private investigator Tom Grant, who was then hired by Courtney Love to find Kurt Cobain.
Please add this movie to the appropriate section, thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.1.204.134 (talk) 00:26, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
Strange that my request just gets entirely ignored. Talking about Wikipedia being a democratic platform where anyone can participate... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.1.204.134 (talk) 00:36, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
And this request has still been ignored for 2 solid months now. Am I making a fool out of myself for trying to participate at Wikipedia or should the Wikipedia mods and admins actually look at the talk page to include relevant information or at least make the article open for editing? This is getting ridiculous. It is after all just about the inclusion of a documentary which has at least the same right to be here as "Montage of Heck"."
- That anyone can participate doesn't mean that someone necessarily will; we're all volunteers here and not obligated to respond to requests. Given that there are five separate projects listed at the top of this Talk page, it seems to me the next logical step would be to contact those projects and ask whether anyone there can review this, assuming nobody chooses to respond on their own. Asking at the help desk or editor assistance would seem to be other reasonable options. DonIago (talk) 19:37, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Cause of death Gunshot wound why has this been changed? his death was ruled a suicide by gunshot.
Phineas4cobain (talk) 08:38, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Currently the sidebar lists Kurt's cause of death as murdered by courtney love
The accusations are ugly. People can believe what they want to believe, but it's been officially ruled a suicide, so the page should reflect that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.227.61.40 (talk) 04:26, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Under 'Health' title, text "He used heroin sporadically for several years, but, by the end of 1990, his use developed into a full-fledged" should be replaced with "He used heroin sporadically for several years, but, by the end of 1980s, his use developed into a full-fledged". For short, "1990" -> "1980s". Reference is this same Wikipedia article further below, as it describes his health problems and heroin addiction. Gjerax (talk) 14:07, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Add reference to the BBC documentary "The Last 48 Hours of Kurt Cobain"
In the https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Kurt_Cobain#Books_and_films_on_Cobain section, add the following text:
In 2007, John Dower directed the documentary The Last 48 Hours of Kurt Cobain, co-produced by the BBC. Besides covering Cobain's career, it focuses on his last days, featuring interviews to people who met him during this period.
Criwi (talk) 10:01, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
- Per WP:IPCV, I don't think it would be appropriate to add this unless a source can be provided establishing that the documentary is considered significant in some manner. DonIago (talk) 13:25, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
If you saw the documentary (it's on youtube) you'd agree that it deserves to be mentioned in the page, much more than some other conspiracy-rubbish "documentaries" already mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.21.74.71 (talk) 01:43, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Please remove Kurt Cobain from the category Category:People with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder --212.95.7.119 (talk) 05:59, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Done, on the basis that it does not seem to be supported by the content of the article. It was added on 11 Feb 2014 by Jonay81687 (talk · contribs), without an obvious explanation. The article content did not obviously support it at that time. If there are sources or a good explanation to support it, it could potentially be added again. Murph9000 (talk) 06:16, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
Note: On further inspection, the 11 Feb 2014 revision of the content did have a mention of "attention-deficit …", which I missed due to the hyphen. As the current content does not include any mention of it, I'm standing by my conditional removal the category for now. Murph9000 (talk) 06:31, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

The death was reported to be a suicide but closer inspection from detective Tom Grant would suggest that it was in fact murder, and many people who have worked for the police in the past believe the case should be reopened, this lead to the creation of the documentary "Soaked in Bleach" Yvain101 (talk) 11:43, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

New Article Main Picture?
The one now is just sorta low quality, taken at a bad angle, and Cobain looked different than he usually did in it. It'd be better to replace it with a picture of his more common image, and maybe an actual close up of his actual self. Either that, or add another picture of his adult self in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.68.52.155 (talk) 22:25, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Under the header "Personal life" and then "Health," there is misleading information about Cobain's stomach pain. Buzz Osbourne may have said that the stomach pain was caused by heroin, but in reality Cobain had his stomach pain before he even started using heroin. He used heroin partly to ease the pain from his stomach illness. The information presented leads the reader to think that Cobain had no such illness and that it was used as an excuse to do heroin. This is misleading and insulting to his legacy and to reality. 109.158.26.122 (talk) 11:23, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Hey there, I was wondering if Kurt Cobain's page can be edited as I don't believe there's enough information in his general biography at the start (such as a description of what type of musician his was and also he should be described about how influential and great of a musician he was). I also believe that a better image should be used instead of the MTV Awards 1992 photo (perhaps a clearer and closer up photo of Kurt Cobain). Keethan00 (talk) 11:13, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

New Article Picture
This has been a recurring request for a while now. There should be a clearer, more upfront picture of Cobain in the beginning of the article instead of the current MTV awards one or at least a clearer picture of him elsewhere in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.68.52.109 (talk) 20:37, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
few sources and little attribution
I'm surprised. Little or no attribution in this article - especially concerning Cobain's problems.
Reads as if it was written by fans.

New Main Picture
It's rather redundant that the same low quality, shakey, older picture is used for Nirvana, his own article, his death article, and mentions of Cobain or Nirvana on other articles. Even besides that, it isn't a very good shot anyways and there are better pictures of Cobain and his band. Please consider changing.
Please someone change the current picture, it's not a great picture at all because of how blurry it is. There's many great good quality pictures of Kurt Cobain, so please may someone consider changing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keditz (talk • contribs) 16:47, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Factual errors
There are parts of this page that are not true, mostly they seem to be minor errors, but they are errors nevertheless, and there are verifiable sources that can prove it. Some parts of the article seem elaborated and lack sources and should be changed unless they can be verified. Other areas have a lot of missing information. Kurt's dominant hand
The information that Kurt was naturally right-handed is false. The sources this information is attributed to say that he was naturally left-handed, but his father forced him to use his right hand, anyhow. Can someone fix the noted error in lede
Right now lede states: "On April 8, 1994, at the age of 27, Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle, and police concluded he died on April 5 from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to his head."
Can an editor with proper privileges change this to: ...and the Seattle medical Examiner ruled he died..."
Police do not make these type of rulings and also the cited source document is medical examiners findings, not policeN34B2 (talk) 16:42, 24 April 2019 (UTC)
Also we have the following in the "Death of" section: 'On March 18, 1994, Love phoned the Seattle police informing them that Cobain was suicidal and had locked himself in a room with a gun. Police arrived and confiscated several guns and a bottle of pills from Cobain, who insisted that he was not suicidal and had locked himself in the room to hide from Love." Yet the source cited document does not say anything about hiding to 'protect' himself from Love.
It is bad enough that the separate article "suicide of Kurt Cobain" clearly gives undue weight to conspiracy theories, and has multiple improper inexpert sourcing/citations, and material attributed to citations that are not in the citations, they should definitely not be here. Smells like teen spirit title origin
On this article, it is asserted that Kathleen Hanna spray-painted Smells like spirit on Kurt's wall since Tobi Vail used that brand of deodorant. However, on this article, Hanna clarifies that the story is apocryphal and that they really just saw the deodorant on the super market and joked about the name. The smells like teen spirit Wikipedia entry is consistent with this version of the origin story.

- We should certainly see about obtaining a better lead image though. You can barely see him in the current one. ~ Flyedit32 (talk) 17:26, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- Unless someone here wishes to contact Cobain's estate and ask for one, or a photographer from the 90s steps forward and releases one with a compatible license, we really do not have much choice at the moment. I looked through the possibilities at the Wiki-Commons, and this appears to be all there is. Zaathras (talk) 21:42, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

At the end of the section about his death, in the subsection called Aftermath, there is the sentence One photo shows Cobain's arm, still wearing the hospital bracelet from the drug rehab facility he checked out of just a few days prior to returning to Seattle. But earlier in the section, it states he "climbed over a six-foot-high fence to leave the facility". I propose replacing checked out of with eloped from. —71.105.198.152 (talk) 10:59, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
- No, no one uses "eloped" unless they are speaking of a secret trip to get married, the usage is archaic otherwise. I changed it to "left", no more elaboration is needed than that. Zaathras (talk) 21:49, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- That's understandable and totally fine with me. Probably an oversight on my part. I mostly just wanted to fix the discrepancy between 'checking out' which implies some form of approval to me and climbing over the fence to leave. Amadeus22 🙋 🔔 14:06, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Zaathras and Amadeus1999: This use of eloped is not archaic and is used by management and staff of drug rehab clinics and other inpatient mental health facilities (see the not-very-old quotations under Origin of Elope at Merriam-Webster). I am opposed to using left; at least change it to fled. —71.105.198.152 (talk) 14:48, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- Even if that is true, it is still not common for everyday English. We are writing for a general audience, not for a medical journal. Also, he was a voluntary patient, not confined or restricted. Hence he "left" of his own volition. Zaathras (talk) 21:00, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

Date of birth/death
Editors are warring over whether it's sufficient to include the years of Cobain's birth and death following his name in the lead of the article, or whether the full dates should be provided. Can we please form a consensus here rather than continuing the ping pong match? DonIago (talk) 15:56, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
- I don't see the benefit in reducing
(February 20, 1967 – c. April 5, 1994)
to(1967–1994)
. How does removing the context that is that we don't know the exact date of death helpful to the lead? I say put it back. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:42, 6 September 2022 (UTC)- Concur with restoring specific dates including "c. April 5" to the first sentence. The edit summary that "it obviates the need to introduce an approximation in the first sentence" is not compelling, given that it increases the approximation. Removing an ambiguous date of death by introducing more ambiguity doesn't improve the article. CAVincent (talk) 05:09, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
- Pinging MichaelFansz (talk · contribs) and Graham11 (talk · contribs) as two editors who previously removed the precise dates. It's not a big deal to me one way or another; I just wanted the ping pong to stop. DonIago (talk) 16:29, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Kurt Cobain's cause of death.
Wikipedia has Kurt Donald Cobain's cause of death a solid "Suicide by gunshot."
With the FBI recently releasing their file on the death amid worldwide speculation of conspiracy theories on the possibility it was actually a murder and the fact that because it has never been labeled a "murder investigation" there is a chance that sometime in the future with more evidence a proper murder investigation could be opened as there is NO statute of limitations on Murder it is completely irresponsible of Wikipedia to label the death a suicide. The Police can change the cause of death from Suicide to Suspicious at any time because of this. Nobody wants to prosecute until they are positive they can. It's only right that Wikipedia make that clear as so many people dispute the Suicide findings. 2601:8C0:880:2630:98E1:F03A:9E53:B017 (talk) 13:55, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Your tinfoil conspiracies are adequately addressed in the article. The cause of death in indeed suicide via self-inflicted gunshot, as detailed by reliable sources. Zaathras (talk) 15:10, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

Kurt's early musical influences
@Joaquin89uy and @CAVincent, so after seeing the back and forth, I went looking and found a reprint of the article in question, here (partial) and here (full). Neither mentions the Ramones. From what I recall reading about Kurt's formative years, he was not quite the cutting edge punk kid that he sometimes self-described. He liked to lie, a lot. Not maliciously, but still. Zaathras (talk) 23:00, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Thanks for tracking down the article. CAVincent (talk) 07:26, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Change “Park Ave Records on Queen Ann Street” to “Park Avenue Records in Queen Anne” in the Death section - see <redacted, possible bad site> for proof (Queen Anne is a Seattle neighborhood, and a hill, and an avenue, but I couldn’t find confirmation of the defunct shop’s actual street location—-only that it was in Queen Anne). 97.113.245.45 (talk) 17:15, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Note: The Billboard source cited at the end of that paragraph explicitly lists the street as Queen Ann Street. I will let another editor determine whether or not to change to the neighborhood name, but either one is verifiable. PlanetJuice (talk • contribs) 18:14, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
Not done: That's great detective work, but due to WP:SYNTH we have to go with the Billboard source even though it's probably wrong. Xan747 (talk) 18:16, 4 July 2023 (UTC)- It's not really detective work, I live in Queen Anne and the wiki is obviously incorrect. Leaving "Queen Ann Street" is incorrect and Billboard is indeed wrong. 97.113.245.45 (talk) 19:11, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- As an analogy, if the Billboard site said "Seattel" we wouldn't feel constrained to use their spelling, because it's factually incorrect. "Queen Ann Street" is also factually incorrect. WP:SYNTH does not apply here. 97.113.245.45 (talk) 19:57, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ok fine. Since it is easily verifiable that there's a Queen Anne Avenue in Seattle, and it's in the Queen Anne neighborhood, I will change Street to Avenue, and correct the spelling of Anne. Xan747 (talk) 20:14, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- So that link the IP shared took me to an entirely different website than the Seattle Times, and now Chrome (the browser I opened it in) is no longer working for me. (Though as a 40-year Seattlite, I can confirm that there is no "Queen Ann Street" in the city.) CAVincent (talk) 18:40, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- I've redacted the IP's URL, per CAVincent post. - FlightTime (open channel) 19:17, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- Funny, it worked for me just fine. The relevant bit is:
A couple of years ago, the 47-year-old owner of Park Avenue Records on Queen Anne Hill acquired a taste for custom-color Fender guitars and tweed amps from the '50s and '60s, and at this point requires a warehouse to contain the collection.

Ninth paragraph under Early Life header: “His mother gave him a ultimatum…”

This is an edit request for the Sexuality tab. While Kurt cobain did state in an interview in 1992 that he could be bisexual, he definitively identified himself as heterosexual in a 1993 interview with the LA times while talking about his love of dresses. I believe a concrete statement like that is worth noting on the page. <https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1993-08-29-ca-29282-story.html> 2600:6C58:4BF0:3590:9C41:E849:52F4:41D1 (talk) 21:12, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
- What needs to be said about the matter is already addressed in the Kurt_Cobain#Sexuality section. There is no need to explicitly state "hetero" in the inbox, and I highly doubt ant biography in the Wikipedia has never done so. Zaathras (talk) 23:38, 27 October 2023 (UTC)
