is this really the biggest dozer ever made? wasn't the Acco super dozer the biggest?

Acco dozer followed by/lead by Western 2000

[edit]

Hi, Folks. The Komatus D575 does qualify as the biggest production-run dozer built so far. However, both the Acco dozer mentioned above, at 183 tons and 1,350 horsepower, and the Western 2000 4wd dozer are both bigger and more powerful. The Western 2000 was built in 1963 for Western Earthmoving in the U.S.. It weighed 170 tons and had a diesel/electric drive giving 1,600 horsepower through its four 400 horsepower wheel motors. It worked until 1981 when I suspect it was scrapped. Both the Acco dozer and the Western 2000 are one-offs so do not qualify as production-run dozers. However, that does not alter the fact that they are both bigger than the Komatsu D575 dozer.

You can find photos of the Acco dozer here:

A 'net search for 'Western 2000' or 'Western 2000 dozer' brings no valid results but I do have some photos contained in a cutting from a magazine containing an article about the Western 2000.

Hope this helps.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant. (dplant8961@yahoo.com)

[edit]

The prototype was the D555A and first production version was the D575A-2 SR. Since there was never a D575, the title was moved to D575A, a more appropriate generic title for this series of machines. Ch Th Jo (talk) 03:05, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
