Flagging

[edit]

I'd love to see some arguments or references on the talk page for the next time someone decides to flag a completely good article as non-notable. "Read the notability guideline" is not enough of an explanation for this article. The biggest flaw of this article is the complete lack of sources. --piksi (talk) 17:28, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, using this argument, among others ("commercial" for a 100% Free Software suite, etc.), the article was cut down to about a third of its original length, instead of improving it.
And even flagging for the lack of references (which is true, indeed), seems to be somewhat unappropiate, as almost all other groupware articles (see e.g. Open-Xchange, Zarafa, Scalix, OpenGroupware.org) do lack references alike, but are not flagged (and IIRC never were).
Being a Kolab user (and a bit of a fan), I gave up enhancing that page in 2008 due to the non-constructive behaviour of one wikipedia maintainer. Sad; but instead of fighting an edit war against a wikipedia maintainer (= impossible to "win"), I (just as supposedly anybody else) rather use my spare time for more delightful activities. I made something like three edits to the article in a year, which is hardly the definition of an "edit war". In exchange, my edits are labelled as "besserwisser vandalism" and I am subjected to the kind of anonymous personal attacks which the Internet is famous for. The {{notability}} tag is a way of saying "uninvolved readers will find it difficult to figure out why this subject is important without some sources to say so" - it is not an attack on the subject, nor some sort of measurement of the penis sizes of the article's contributors. Removing these cleanup tags and attacking the editors responsible does nothing to improve the encyclopedia at all. While I don't hold any hope that your average Internet denizen will ever grow up, it is worth pointing this out from time to time.
