Do we have any more information about the geology of these lakes? Looking at Google Maps satellite view for the given coordinates (https://www.google.com/maps/place/53%C2%B000'00.0%22N+70%C2%B012'00.0%22E/@52.9999936,70.1175475,38108m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d53!4d70.2?hl=en&entry=ttu ), I was initially struck by the apparent resemblance to a crater field. Further west, the view of Lake Arykbalyk (https://www.google.com/maps/place/150000+Arykbalyk,+Kazakhstan/@52.9511019,68.1869029,4761m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x424b1b307c7cdee3:0x33b395cfab1f5009!8m2!3d52.958753!4d68.2006398!16s%2Fg%2F120y3c5p?hl=en&entry=ttu ) shows a lake much rounder than I'd expect from purely tectonic processes. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 11:26, 17 February 2024 (UTC) [ reply ]
