As a Shi'ite Muslim I can say that this information is completely bogus. Kitmaan is more of a loose philosophy than something clearly defined, it is different to Taqiyah. It in essence means to remain silent on that which is unnecessary/ not a necessity to mention, it doesn't imply lying; rather it is prudence - being wise and in some cases waiting for an appropriate time to be vocal on an issue. It also stems from piety, not saying something to offend someone and does not stem from slyness, cunning or politik, an example of which: if a pregnant wife asks her husband "Honey, do I look fat?" he may reply "You look beautiful to me my darling." Irrelevant, diversionary ending: "Nearly every clash of ideas,...in fifteenth-century Spain."

It may be true that "Nearly every clash of ideas, doctrines, and ideologies are accompanied by some form" of "secrecy, concealment". And it may be true also that there were "Nicodemite who were concealed Christians under the Roman Empire" or "Marranos in fifteenth-century Spain" who practiced "secrecy, concealment". Nevertheless, the alleged behavior of Christians and Marranos is not germane to topic of Islamic jurisprudence or its "science of deception or legal trickery". Likewise, the innuendo---arguably clever---that kitman is used by nonmuslims in "every clash" has no place here.

The offending passage, which is basically just diversionary, "tu quoque" rhetoric, needs to be deleted.
