I don't think this book is as lost as the article says...

Isn't this literally the same book being discussed in the article? Its in French and as far as I have found there is no officialy English translation but this certainly sounds like the exact same tome being referenced.

Excuse me, but I strongly disagree. Literally the last sentence of the current article reads 'It is unknown whether the Kitāb al-Kanūz still exists'. Now, when I first came across this article I took that to mean that we have no known access of any kind to the book. I strongly suspect most readers will interpret the article exactly as I have. Making a note that in 1907 a French translation of the text was made and remains available to this day? Wouldn't it be good to also note that an alternate English translation of 'Book of Hidden Pearls' is 'Book of Buried Pearls' and in French the text is referred to as Livre des perles enfouies? It would have been extremely useful to have all that information included in the article the first time I reviewed the information. 173.174.70.63 (talk) 03:24, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What? This article is about a manuscript - that's a single, physical object. That object, according to the article, was extant in 1930. A 1907 translation does not change anything about whether the manuscript existed in 1930 or not, or whether it exists now or not. The translation of the text is a completely different thing. We don't say that the Tablets of Stone still exist because we know what the Ten Commandments are, or because they've been depicted in paintings.

If you want to add information about the translation, by all means do so! (Though, you'll want to ensure that the book you've mentioned is a translation of this manuscript, rather than just supposing that it is.) -- asilvering (talk) 03:50, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
