Ok people, hold the phone... When did Wiki become a site filled with articles about consumer reporting?

I think the page needs totally re-designed with the History, models etc, and the technical aspects of the products, such as design, and efficiency. Scrap the debate stuff about complaints and bad business practices. The "Dirtmeter" accessory also needs it's own page with a link. I personally view Wiki as a site of detailed information about a subject, not a site filled with debate wars all over it. Find a forum for that, or just let Rob Cockerham do it on cockeyed.com.... I can agree to a point. There is almost no information about the corporation nor the products. That should be at the forefront of the article. But at the same time, the business practices of the Kirby distrubitors I do feel should be mentioned also. It's not just cockeyed.com's site that mentions consumer complaints about such. Doing a browser search (I used Google, but I'm sure any would do) brings up NUMEROUS sites complaining about their sales tactics in many nations including the United States, England and others. Since apparently similar sales tactics are done in apparently most or all the nations where they sell vacuums, I think it's noteworthy to post said sales tactics.

But yes, mention of the various models, past and present along with some information about the corporation is needed and is currently almost completly lacking. 69.76.14.139 (talk) 08:37, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

And yet, at least of Feb. 2010 if one does a search on any browser for Kirby, one gets NUMEROUS sites giving various stories regarding complaints due to Kirby salesmen sales tactics. This article is a waste of time

I came here for information on the company, its history, and information about my specific models of vacuum (I have a few older kirbys in various states of repair). This article needs some serious work... it upsets me that an article on a rather well known American company is almost entirely made up or criticisms, most of which are written horribly. I am not saying there aren't criticisms to be made, but wikipedia is NOT your blog to post how upset you are, it is an encyclopedia, and everything should be sourced and readily verifiable.

The picture caption for the second offer needs to be changed, since the third offer of 995 was not written that makes it un-verifiable doesn't it? So we keep the two pictures (they are very important to the criticisms section), but that caption must be changed.

The bottom line is there is no information at all about the company's history, and nothing about individual models. I will start to rectify that, and I am going to change the caption on that photo for starters. Matt 13:49, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Warranty

I changed parts of this section to bring the paragraph closer to the truth. However, I have to admit that I'm also a Kirby dealer, and not necessarily the best person to be keeping an NPOV on any part of this article. Actual monthly demo's required in UK

Having recently, and regrettably, worked for a Kirby branch in the east midlands, I would like to point out that the number of demo's one must perform each month is no longer 50, but 60.. And this is just to recieve a basic wage of £1000 Aceripper (talk) 20:34, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Most of the Article.. does it have good sources?

Inspiration for Video Game character of same name?

There is a debate on the origins of Kirby's name. One widespread view is that Kirby adopted his Western name from the Kirby Corporation, a vacuum cleaner manufacturer, leading to the belief the name is a play on Kirby's ability to inhale just about anything. The other possible explanation is that Kirby was named in honor of Nintendo's legal counsel, John Kirby of Latham & Watkins LLP, who represented them in the courtroom during a copyright infringement lawsuit over Donkey Kong filed by Universal Studios. However, Masahiro Sakurai has been quoted as saying he does not remember how Kirby got his name.

I forget where I read it, but I remember reading that Kirby was originally going to be yellow, and named Keeby. why the Kirby is so good

I happen to work for one of those said distributors, and i can tell you that some of the distributors of Kirby vacuum systems do need to handle their business practices in a better fashion but not all Distributors are dishonest crooks.

That being said i think this page needs to be rewritten to exclude any business practices of Kirby Distributors or lawsuits made against Kirby Distributors, and focus on what a Kirby is. when used PROPERLY this cleaning system will do a fantastic job cleaning your home AND that when kept in good condition (people always talk about how they have to do this or that, or fix this or that to their Kirby but not any other vacuum system.....but this is misleading most vacuums don't last you 30+ years or even longer i myself own 3 Kirby's and one of them was built in 1973 and still works better then ANY DYSON i have ever seen in my life (my opinion), now any other appliance in your home you would do regular maintenance so why wouldn't you maintain your vacuum system you paid a lot of money for to keep it in working order for as long as possible. I work in a repair shop for my Distributor and Ive seen 50, 60 and yes even 70 year old Kirby's come into my shop for minimal maintenance, and like any Kirby these are still better then vacuum you can buy at Wallmart or Lowe's or even Sears . The reason why we do in home demonstrations is so people can see the product working in their own home and not some Television studio set where most other vacuums are demonstrated with actors and people who are compensated for saying what that company wants them to say. Not to mention why you never see other vacuum companies put their vacuums up against a Kirby vacuum system in any of their commercials.

And for those who say its too expensive well you pay for what you get, even if i only had my 1973 Kirby (do not know what it cost it was handed down to me, guessing around $800.00), which still works, it would have saved me I don't know how much money for having to buy a new one $200.00 (for a decent model so to speak) I would have had to buy 11+ vacuums by now costing in excess of $2100.00 for an inferior product, i cannot say what Kirby systems sell for as i am an employee of a Factory authorized Distributor of the Kirby System but I'm sure you can get a price in your area fairly easily, but they do clean so much better than any store bought models out there.

I wont go into more specifics because i could sit here and write for hours defending the Kirby but someone needs to change the "Kirby" page and if you want to write something about the FEW bad seed Kirby Distributors then make a new page for "Kirby-Distributors", and keep this page what it is supposed to be....information about the KIRBY and not its the people who sell them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cdermont01972 (talk • contribs) 19:29, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Complaint

My name is Mamokwen Jane Mosiamang ID 6608150085085, I bought a kirby machine in 2016 if not wrong. I bought it from Mr Motshiwa, who told me other parts of the machine will come after I have finished paying. I did finish but nothing arrived. The money was deducted from the bank every month.
