There are two different articles "Kirar Thakur" and "Kirar" about one common group of indian people (caste). Its a caste group which according to various sources, known as kirar, kirar chobdar and also as Kirar thakur as the community claims to be Rajput, however the same is denied by the Brahmins and the Rajputs proper. They are listed as "Other Backward castes(Classes)in the Indian central government as well as the various Indian state government. Hence there is no need of having two articles on the same subject and that both the articles be merged to form a common topic. thanx. Mahensingha 19:12, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

The famous Lord Shiva temple located in Kiradu, a place 35 km away from Barmer city, was built in the 6th century during the rule of Parmar dynasty. Kiradu was the earlier headquarters of Barmer district. Earlier, Kiradu was known by the name of Kiradkot and was under the rule of Kirad clan of Rajputs which prove that Kirad are from Rajasthan.<https://barmer.rajasthan.gov.in/content/raj/barmer/en/about-barmer/historical-events.html#> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.247.230.152 (talk) 09:25, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title Thakur

[edit]

The Title-"Kirar Thakur" is not suitable for the article as with no article of other caste or community even of rajputs, the "Thakur" title is used. Also, if the same is to be used then there must be enough literary resources to prove that they (Kirars) are " Thakurs".--Mahensingha 17:22, 29 August 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mahensingha (talkcontribs)

The "Thakur" title applies to many castes of India and has got nothing to with a singular caste, hence the name of the Article should be "Kirar" instead of "Kirar Thakur". Regards. --Mahensingha 16:51, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

The caste is officially recognized as "Kirar/Kirad" and certainly not as "Kirar Thakur". Hence, needs the title to be changed.[1]--Mahensingha 22:55, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Kirars are Rajputs, however like many others, they too claim to be Rajputs. Please do not give false information on the page. Even in Madhya Pradesh, they are known by different titles like Yadav, Chauhan etc. but are by all means different from proper Yadav or Chauhan Rajputs. I request editors to please give reference of any reliable source before editing the page. Thanks.--Mahensingha 19:14, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

You are an idiot and jealous of kirars Subhashdhakad786 (talk) 20:51, 8 January 2016 (UTC) I agree with Mr. Subhash. Some persons of other community are jealous to Royal Kirar/Kirad. There are several article on internet which prove Royal Kirar/Kirad background as a Kshatriya. I have few examples like Kiradu temple of Kiradkot (rajsthan), If some need more information about Kirar/Kirad i will share to them. It does not mean at present somebody comes in ST/SC/OBC or unreserved. Historically or traditionally there are only four clan and Kirar/Kirad by born are Kshatriya. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.226.173.2 (talk) 12:19, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kiradu was the earlier headquarters of Barmer district. Earlier, Kiradu was known by the name of Kiradkot and was under the rule of Kirad clan of Rajputs.

In the early 13th century, Rao Sihaji, founder of the Rathore clan, conquered this place from the Guhil Rajputs. There is an inscription dated 1295 AD which proves the existence of the Rajput clan in the area in the 13th century. Barmer was under the rule of Maharajakula Sri Samantha Sinha Deva at that time.

In the 14th century, Rajput ruler Jaitmal Rathore built the famous Fort Siwana. The fort is also known as ‘Garh Siwana’. In 1308 AD, Allaudin Khilji attacked the place and the fort came under the Khilji rule. The fort of Siwana was restored by Lutinga Chouhan in the years between 1318 AD and 1320 AD when he was able to defeat the Muslim ruler.

In the 18th Century, British rulers adopted the name Barmer for the region. The name Barmer was derived from the ruler Bahad Rao Parmar who ruled the place in the 13th century[3] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.247.230.152 (talk) 09:37, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Kirar is a kshatriya community. There is a lot of evidences which shows that kirar belongs to rajpoots . This wikipedia article states that Kirar belongs to backward class, Kirar is not kshatriya . But this is wrong, How can you write about a society without knowing about it . If it is written about a society then it is necessary to collect complete information about it . By coming in OBC , what kirar did not remain kstriya? Being financially weak , kirar were put in OBC . But this does not means that kirar is not kshatriya. And in this article of wikipedia , it has been said that upper caste do not accept the food cooked by kirar hand . How did you write this? Come some time in the area of chambal and gwalior then see and know about kirar kshatriya . There kirar is called by the peoples as thakur sahab. There are many kirars in the positions of zamindar and lambardar . There people from other backward classes does not dare to sit equale to kirar kshatriya .

In the book of sir JAMES THOD also the kirar have been described as kshatriya and in it the names of kirars kshatriya in 36 fratornities are also mentioned . And many more book in which this is mentioned that kirar belongs to kshatriya community. In rajasthan kiradu temple is made by kirar rulers And the fort of Bhitarwar ,gwalior made by kiar thakurs there are many proofs.

That's why I request ,please do not give wrong information and I request you not to write like this without knowing about any society. It has an adverse effect on the people of the society, you don't know what the people of other society say . That's why I request you to pay attention to my points and understand it and make changes in the article of yours . I have more such evidence which proves that Kirar is kshatriya.

Please change “Kirar is a Hindu agricultural caste whose traditional occupation is cultivation” to “Kirar is a Hindu Kshatriya caste numbered 48,000 persons in 1911. The Kirars claim to be Dhakar or bastard Rajputs, and in 1891 more than half of them returned themselves under this designation. About a thousand persons who were returned as Dhakar Rajputs from Hoshangabad in 1901 are probably Kirars. The caste say that they immigrated from Gwalior, and this statement seems to be correct, as about 66,000 of them are found in that State. They claim to have left Gwalior as early as Samvat 1525 or A.D. 1468, when Alru and Dalru, the leaders of the migration into the Central Provinces, abandoned their native village, Doderi Kheda in Gwalior, and settled in Chandon, a village in the Sohagpur tahsil of Hoshangabad. But according to the story related to Mr. (Sir Charles) Elliott, the migration took place in A.D. 1650 or at the beginning of Aurangzeb's reign.

1 He quotes the names of the leaders as Alrawat and Dalrawat, and says that the migration took place from the Dholpur country, but this is probably a mistake, as none of the caste are now found in Dholpur. Elliott stated that he could find no traces of any cultivating caste having settled in Hoshangabad as far back as Akbar's time, though Sir W. Sleeman was of opinion that the first great migra- tion into the Nerbudda valley took place in that reign. The truth is probably that the valley began to be regularly colonised by Hindus during the years that Aurangzeb spent at Burhanpur and in the Deccan, and the immigration of the Kirars may most reasonably be attributed to this period.

The Kirars, Gujars, and Raghuvansis apparently entered the Central Provinces together, and the fact that they still smoke from the same huqqa and take water from each other's drinking vessels may be a reminiscence of this bond of fellowship. All these castes claim, and probably with truth, to be degraded Rajputs. The Kirars' version is that they took to widow -marriage and were consequently degraded. According to another story they were driven from their native place by a Muhammadan invasion.”
