Name

[edit]

Is it truly named for Kingsway in London? Locally, I've been told that it is named for King Edward VII. Fishhead64 19:34, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely possible since King Edward died in 1910, 3 years before Westminster Road (also Vancouver Road) was renamed to Kingsway. Another possibility is that King George V visited Vancouver in 1901 with his wife when he was the Duke of Cornwall. --Usgnus 20:59, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The name "Kingsway" seems incomplete. Is it a road, street, avenue, boulevard, drive, lane, parkway, or some other type of route? If it is a way (the name being a contraction of "King's Way"), shouldn't it usually be preceded by the word "the", just like the Queensway, the Queen Elizabeth Way (a.k.a. the QEW) or the Gardiner Expressway? How do people in Burnaby typically refer to it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.196.130.182 (talk) 05:29, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's "Kingsway," period. This is verified by the street signs and by maps. In this way it is analogous to Broadway, no definite article required. Lots of thoroughfares in British Columbia are designated _______ Way. The definite article makes no more sense here than it would with _______ Road. fishhead64 (talk) 15:42, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Picture at Dumfries

[edit]

The Dumfries-area picture seems of low quality. Can a better one be added? If not, I propose it be removed. Thoughts? Thanks, Hu Gadarn 20:12, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
