The case has also been connected to an accidental police shooting in October 2012, which resulted in a $6.7 million settlement paid by the City of Oxnard to Alfonso Limon's family.[1][2]

Thanks, Rich Farmbrough. By including that I aimed to respond to the feedback about broadening citations beyond local newspapers. Shaun King's post at the Daily Kos has been shared and circulated widely on Twitter, but I didn't want to include all of the post's assertions, so thought I would mention it this way.
