Kill Devil Hill vs. Kill Devil Hills
[edit]@Barticus88: You have now twice changed a redirect which had been stable for seven years. I've never been to this part of North Carolina, so perhaps there is a good reason why Wikipedia was incorrect for so long. All I can go on is the articles and their references. These are your edit summaries:

Totally bizarre reversion. Obviously Kill Devil Hill is a typo for Kill Devil Hills. Kill Devil Hills is distinct form the Wright memorial. Are you going to change Kill Devil Hills and Kill Devil Hills, NC to the Wright memorial too?
Here is what I see:
- Per Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina#Name origin, the name Kill Devil Hills dates to the colonial era, and the "hills" are actually large sand dunes along the beaches where ships carrying rum would commonly wreck. Kill devil is a slang term for rum. A citation is needed to substantiate this.
- At the time of the Wright Bros. flight, the town of Kill Devil Hills did not exist; hence the location was attributed to the nearest town at the time, Kitty Hawk. Kill Devil Hills was simply the name of the sand dunes where they conducted their glider tests and flight. The town was later named after these "hills".
- Inside the Wright Brothers National Memorial, which itself is within the town of Kill Devil Hills, is the Kill Devil Hill Monument (a redirect which has stood since 2006). According to the article, "A 60-foot (18 m) granite monument, dedicated in 1932, is perched atop 90-foot-tall (27 m) Kill Devil Hill, commemorating the achievement of the Wright brothers. They conducted many of their glider tests on the massive shifting dune that was later stabilized to form Kill Devil Hill." This is confirmed by looking at the Park Map, where you'll see the monument at the center of the Kill Devil Hill, which is adjacent to the first flight airstrip.
- But this photo gallery calls the hill with the monument "Big Kill Devil Hill".
So the question is whether this hill with the monument on top, or a spelling error, is the primary topic for Kill Devil Hill. – Wbm1058 (talk) 13:58, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
See Modern United States commemorative coins#2003, a link which is broken by redirecting to the town. Also note that anyone landing on the article Wright Brothers National Memorial by typo or error, is redirected to the article about the town by the lead sentence: "Wright Brothers National Memorial, located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina," ... – Wbm1058 (talk) 14:17, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
See also William Tate (lighthouse keeper) and Flugwissenschaftliche Vereinigung Aachen. Granted, the Wrights probably didn't name "the hill". I suspect it acquired its name concurrent with the decision to stabilize it and build the monument on top of it. Best source to confirm would be a contemporary newspaper report. I just fixed a few links to the band Kill Devil Hill that needed to be piped to Kill Devil Hill (band). Perhaps the idea that this band was named after the town and not the hill with the monument on it contributes to the confusion. – Wbm1058 (talk) 14:41, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
