Spelling of Metis
[edit]To whom it may concern,
While generally Metis has an accent above the "e" when writing Metis Settlement(s) the accent is removed. This is due to how the legislation is written. The Metis Settlement Act as well as subsequent acts and previous act omitted the accent. Accordingly, both Metis Settlements and the Metis Settlements General Council (who own the settlements land through Letters Patents)omit the accent.

- If I recall correctly, the "é" may have been implemented over the "e" because Alberta Municipal Affairs (AMA) was using the former over the latter in the official proper names of the settlements. Looking again, it appears either that was not the case or AMA has since moved away from using the former in favour of the latter on its website [1] [2] and in its publications. [3] [4] [5] [6] "Metis" yields more hits than "Métis" when searching the AMA website as well. All acts and regulations at the Queen's Printer use "Metis" in the title, which confirm the above claim. However, there is inconsistency at msgc.ca and "Métis" is front and centre on Kikino's website. Same at Fishing Lake. I'm not sure how to really move forward yet.
