Transportation

this article should also explain the transportation of water from areas of surplus to deficit.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.20.108 (talkcontribs)

Bakethin Reservoir

[edit]

Bakethin Reservoir is mentioned in the infobox, but not the article. Can someone who knows the detail expand on this, please? Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 10:12, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Northumbrian Water

[edit]

Northumbrian Water was founded in 1989 after the reservoir was opened, so which organisation(s) started and saw the project through to completion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.134.75.30 (talk) 17:16, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No. Northumbrian Water was created as a company in 1985 as part of the privatisation of the water industry. The new private company took over many(but not all) the functions of the previous Northumbria Water Authority. It was the Water Authority who commissioned the reservoir as a response to intense Government demands to increase water security in the North East at a time of rising demand. The forecast demand never materialised largely due to the downturn in heavy industry on the Tyne, Tees and Wear.  Velella  Velella Talk   21:21, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Image date claim...

[edit]

The construction site image is captioned with a statement that its from the "1970s". Some of the construction equipment in that picture is much newer than the 1970s. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.234.100.60 (talk) 04:15, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, but since this was an image I took myself, and I left the area in the early 1970s, and since it is easy to determine the opening date of the reservoir, I guess we will need a few more specifics to understand what, if any, temporal shift has happened here.  Velella  Velella Talk   21:50, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

Derivation from the Gaelic "caol dobhar" is improbable - "Caol" is a noun meaning a narrow sea channel Northern rocks 12:03, 10 August 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nasty swimmer (talkcontribs)
