Article title
[edit]@Dan arndt: Wikipedia has two articles about people called K. Sivanesan, and they're both politicians. Would it be best to move this article to Kiddinan Sivanesan and the other one to Kandiah Sivanesan (both existing redirects)? That leaves the question of whether either person is the primary topic for K. Sivanesan. If so then it should become a primary redirect; if not then it should remain a dab page. In either case, I think K. Sivanesan (politician) should have the same destination as K. Sivanesan. Any other opinions please? Certes (talk) 11:15, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
- Certes interesting dilemma... I agree that this article is best moved to Kiddinan Sivanesan and the other to Kandiah Sivanesan as you suggest, as that is standard practice in differentiating individuals. K. Sivanesan would become a dab page with links to both individual articles, with K. Sivanesan (politician) being a redirect to K. Sivanesan. Dan arndt (talk) 06:13, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- Done; thanks for your help. Certes (talk) 17:19, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
- Here in Wikipedia we use WP:COMMONNAME to name articles. The common name of both individuals is K. Sivanesan. The initialisation of the first name may look odd to western eyes but this is how Tamils do it. The creation of K. Sivanesan (politician) was wrong as both individuals are politicians. There is an argument for having Kiddinan Sivanesan as the primary topic as he is the better known of the two. Whichever way it's done, having the first names in the titles is wrong - Tamils don't use their full first name.--Obi2canibe (talk) 17:22, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Obi2canibe: Thanks for the information and sorry for the inconvenience. I was just trying to tidy up links to the disambiguation page and to help editors find the right article in future. I'm happy for the titles to go back to whatever style best suits the topic. Certes (talk) 18:19, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
