Khanom tom additions

[edit]

Paul 012, since your additions on khanom tom are all based on a single non-English source, per WP: Verifiability please provide quotations of relevant portions of the original source in English that support your edits. This material also needs additional citations per WP: Verifiability.

I'm not sure the material on khanom tom belongs in this article. If it is a related but distinct sweet, it should really have its own article. I invite other editors to discuss. Thanks. - Ram1751 (talk) 02:29, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments. I'm still trying to figure out how best to handle this. I added the mention here as a quick fix because mentions of khanom tom were previously linked to modak, which is very different. I was planning to eventually create a separate article for khanom tom, but it turns out to be more complicated than that, as the name khanom tom refers to two different variants: "white" khanom tom khao, which is nearly identical to what is commonly called khanom kho today, and "red" khanom tom daeng, which looks very different. Meanwhile, the Royal Institute Dictionary definition of khanom kho doesn't match today's common usage, but instead refers to what is today called khanom kho kathi ('khanom kho in coconut milk'), which has the same filling as khanom tom but is again different on the outside. It doesn't quite make sense to cover the more closely related dishes in separate articles, but I'm having trouble finding sources that go in-depth into their commonality and likely shared origins. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:26, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
