Statements on Jews

[edit]

I fail to see why this material has been removed. The source is an interview Amayreh gave that was broadcast on Iran's Press TY (as translated by MEMRI). An interview with a national news network is certainly notable and his statements regarding "Zionist Jews" are also notable (yes, they may not portray Amayreh in a positive light, but that alone is not a reason to remove it). As for the claim that the translation is inaccurate, please cite a source to indicate this. It is true that of the thousands of translation MEMRI has done over the last decade, less than a dozen have been questioned as being inaccurate (by sources which themselves aren't exactly neutral). To claim (or imply) that all MEMRI translations are suspect is a little disingenuous.(Hyperionsteel (talk) 02:17, 17 January 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Where in guidelines does it say an interview on national news is notable? I've raised a discussion at WP:BLPN because this pertains wider WP:BLP issues of WP:UNDUE, WP:RS, and probably even WP:COAT. JFHJr () 02:24, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I would think that an interview on a national television news broadcast is notable, but you are free to disagree with me. As for your other claims, I will again ask you to cite a source to support your claim that the translation is inaccurate.(Hyperionsteel (talk) 02:27, 17 January 2012 (UTC))[reply]

To preempt further conflicts, I am considering adding material from this article written by Amayreh himself, in which he agrees with Helen Thomas that Jews of European ancestry should be expelled from Palestine and that "Israel can be and should be compared with Nazi Germany." I welcome any comments or concerns.(Hyperionsteel (talk) 02:32, 17 January 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Quotes from interviews from WP:RS generally are acceptable if in context - since comments on this topic often taken out of context to appear more controversial than they may in fact be. And quotes should not just emphasizing some one point for some POV reason while ignoring what may be more major points to the interviewee or the subject. However, they also should not be the main point of the article about the subject. Therefore anyone adding them to this article also should look at new refs below to give a broader picture of the individual. CarolMooreDC 16:01, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New refs need adding

[edit]

From the deletion discussion via Sean Hoyland: I think it's probably reasonable to consider Ma'an News Agency(see their about us page) as a reliable source when it comes to Palestinian journalists, and they refer to him as 'Prominent Palestinian journalist Khalid Amayreh' here. Human Rights Watch have a section about him in their No News is Good News report (pp21-22) (with secondary source coverage by AP/Guardian here). CarolMooreDC 15:57, 20 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
