Dr. Kevin McCarthy, Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland
[edit]Perhaps an entry is required for the above in relation to his polonophobic article published in the Belfast Telegraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.155.23.67 (talk) 08:28, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
- If by entry you mean adding his name to the list, that doesn't happen until a biographical article about him has been written, if he is notable per WP:BIO. - BilCat (talk) 13:56, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
The historian Dr Kevin McCarthy, of Kinsale, Co Cork, is notable per his hateful article in the Belfast Telegraph. 80.4.63.73 (talk) 15:01, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
He should not be confused with his namesake electrical/electronic engineer at UCC. 80.4.63.73 (talk) 17:43, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
Two versions of the Kevin McCarthy disambiguation page
[edit]Explanatory notes
[edit]1) In the December 23 version, entries are arranged in chronological order [by birth year] under each section header --- in the current version, the order is random.
2) Since all three politicians are American, the section header so indicates --- in the current version, the nationality of only one politician is specified.
3) Kevin A. McCarthy is indicated according to his entry --- in the current version, he is listed as Kevin McCarthy (Illinois politician) (no middle initial and unnecessary qualifier).
4) Kevin McCarthy (Iowa politician) has a birth year (born 1971) --- in the current version, he does not.
5) There are three entries under section header "Entertainment industry personalities" --- in the current version, these are commingled with "Others".
6) Kevin McCarthy (actor), American Academy Award nominee --- in the current version [Kevin McCarthy (actor), film actor] there is no nationality, unnecessary repetition of "actor", who was not simply a "film actor", but also had an extensive TV career.
7) Kevin McCarthy (radio)]] (born 1950), American broadcasting personality, who has worked as DJ and talk show host primarily in Dallas/Fort Worth area since 1972 --- in the current version no nationality or birth year is specified.
8) Kevin McCarthy (director), American television director who, between 1993 and 2012 was nominated for 20 Daytime Emmy Awards (game show Jeopardy) and won 6 times --- in the current version no period of activity is indicated, thus blurring his chronological order.
9) Kevin McCarthy (ice hockey) (born 1957), Canadian right shot defender whose playing career lasted from 1977 to 1988; later assistant coach --- in the current version no nationality is specified.
10) Kevin McCarthy (victim of Long Island Rail Road massacre)]] (born 1967), American shooting victim whose mother, Carolyn McCarthy, was elected to Congress --- in the current version his nationality and birth year are not indicated, thus blurring his chronological order. Also the current description [Kevin McCarthy, shooting victim of Colin Ferguson, son of U.S. Representative Carolyn McCarthy] makes it appear that Colin Ferguson is the son of U.S. Representative Carolyn McCarthy.
11) Kevin McCarthy (bank robber) (born 1977), American white supremacist member of Aryan Republican Army who robbed 22 Midwest banks --- in the current version his nationality is not specified and his birth year is missing, thus blurring his chronological order.
12) Kevin McCarthy (entrepreneur) (born 1985), American internet media entrepreneur who co-founded local online news site and community publishing platform BostInno --- in the current version, the entry is missing entirely.
13) under section header "See also": Kevin McCarty (born 1972), American Democratic legislator who, since December 2014, has been representing 7th district in California State Assembly; represented Sacramento City Council 6th District from 2004 to 2014 --- in the current version, the entry is missing entirely.
14) McCarthy (surname) --- in the current version, the entry is missing entirely.
15) On February 9, 2016, User:Swpb added [to "See also"] Kevin MacArthur, fictional character on television series The League --- a questionable addition --- McCarthy and MacArthur are not close enough (unlike the deleted addition of Kevin McCarty, to say nothing of the deleted Kevin McCarthy (entrepreneur).

Response
[edit]A) You could have left a link to the previous version rather than reprint the whole thing. B) This is a textbook example of your not getting the reason for DAB page. You have presented far too much info about these people. As numerous others have stated DAB pages are NOT articles - they are not even list articles. The info on them is to be kept to a minimum and this goes way beyond that. MarnetteD|Talk 23:56, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
- I thank you for taking the time to follow the link, examine the page and post a response. However, said response indicates a basic misunderstanding of my presentation. A) If I merely left a link to my version of December 23, 2015, could I expect anyone to click back and forth between each version to compare and examine the 15 points which I enumerated at the top, specifying the 15 shortcomings of the current version as compared to my version. Nothing can match or replace a side-by-side or, in this case, above-below presentation of the two versions for instant comparison. B) The reason for this presentation was solely to demonstrate how the reverting of my edits deprived this dab's users of the benefit that the additional details would have provided. C) The length of these entries is a separate issue which is now being discussed at ANI. D) Of course, these are NOT articles -- not even sentences -- only brief fragments occupying less than half a line of text. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 05:32, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
- Once again you show a shocking lack of understanding of WP:MOSDAB. DAB pages are not here to provide additional info to readers. They exist only to get readers to articles. MarnetteD|Talk 14:59, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
- It was kind of you to return, once again, to this talk page and hope that you had an opportunity to peruse my 15-point presentation above. I also trust that my reply "A" satisfactorily explained the point raised under your "A". As to your earlier point "B", I thought it was understood that the Kevin McCarthy discussion was strictly about the content deficiencies in the current version and that the issue of length was to be decided at the ANI. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 15:57, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
- Now you also show a lack of knowledge of what is going on at the ANI thread. It is not deciding on the length of this DAB page. It is about your continued ignoring of WP:CONSENSUS as well as whether you should be editing DAB pages at all. At this point you should read WP:NOTGETTINGIT. MarnetteD|Talk 17:46, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
- I am, once again, appreciative of your willingness to continue discussing this subject and thank you for guiding me to WP:Disruptive editing and its subsection "Failure or refusal to "get the point"". I had read it at some point in the past, agree with its content, and find it interesting and informative. I must assume that since you pointed me to it, you must also be familiar with its contents. "Getting the point" is a key element in the discussion on this page since, rather than the topic at ANI, it primarily concerns the 15 deficiencies I pointed out earlier. By focusing entirely on the length of the entries and disregarding entirely my 15 points (most likely dismissing them as WP:Too long; didn't read), you display an ironclad adherence to a vague (not specified in exact terms) consensus without even a word of commendation regarding the improved quality (unless, of course, you think that the issues raised in the 15 points are not worth considering and that the entries were fine in their original state). —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 19:03, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
