Needs cleanup

[edit]

This article is in sore need of reformatting and general cleanup. Please help if you can. —  Stevie is the man!  Talk | Work 16:07, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, what a mess.

[edit]

I'll try to reformat some of these longer lists, that may help to a degree.

Hyper Anthony 17:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That ought to do it. If anyone else can come through and improve it further, please go right ahead. :D

Hyper Anthony 18:37, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I just did some formatting hacks and standardization. Hope that helps. —  Stevie is the man!  Talk | Work 01:37, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and by the way, thanks for your great work, Hyper Anthony! :) —  Stevie is the man!  Talk | Work 01:37, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Currently, we have four articles, three of them stubs and one a start at best, describing Kentucky's legislature (Kentucky General Assembly, Kentucky House of Representatives, Kentucky Senate, and Legislative Research Commission). Wouldn't it be better to have one good article instead? Acdixon 20:01, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Per no discussion, I have performed the merge. Acdixon 15:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge, second discussion

[edit]

After I merged Kentucky Senate and Kentucky House of Representatives into this article the first time, another editor came back and split them again. I still favor the merged version until the two houses develop significant content. Apparently, User:HiB2Bornot2B agrees. Acdixon 16:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do in fact agree. I apologize for not stating my reasoning for it, but it doesn't seem that we should have the small stubs of articles when they can be part of the entire Kentucky General Assembly article (as stated by Acdixon as noted in the first discussion regarding the merger of these articles. I can suggest that the seperate articles for the house and senate redirect to the general assembly article. -- Steven Williamson (HiB2Bornot2B) - talk 20:12, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that nearly every other state has separate articles for the Legislature, the Upper House and Lower House. Having Kentucky merge them all into one would seem to discourage people from expanding the articles. Most states have lists of the members. That would help expand the pages. Chadlupkes 00:56, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to see consistency among the states. My own preference would be to have a List of current state senators and a List of current Representatives, rather than embedding them in articles. Most of the states with separate articles for their Upper and Lower Houses don't have much beyond those lists anyway. Or, de like Iowa and have Boxes.Flatterworld 05:06, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Merging the articles is a bad idea. The Kentucky Senate and Kentucky House are very different and have different histories and memberships, and different roles. Further, the Legislative Research Commission is NOT a part of the Kentucky General Assembly. (It cannot be, under the Kentucky Constitution.) Each deserves a separate article. Trying to merge them into one article would result in a long, difficult and unwieldy article on various separate subjects. They merit separate articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LanternLight (talkcontribs) 18:02, 17 February 2008

Some info out-of-date

[edit]

A good deal of info in the "Standing Committees" section is out-of-date by five years or more. If standing committee info is going to be part of this page, would it be fair for someone to please update that section with current standing committee info found on the Kentucky Legislature Home Page? Current Senate standing committee info is available here: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/committee/standing_senate.htm

Current House standing committee info is available here: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/committee/standing_house.htm

Based on the above links, I suggest that the standing committee info should be listed separately since the committee names differ in each chamber and that info should be updated like this:

I suppose the all-caps is used for committees and the mixed-case is for subcommittees. For Wikipedia, we should use bullets and sub-bullets instead. —BarrelProof (talk) 16:33, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Burden88: Perhaps there is a separate guideline that supports this, however, Wikipedia does not welcome simple listings (WP:NOTDIR). I'm not sure how significant this info is, and perhaps the list should be removed from the page altogether. Feel free to reopen the edit request if you find significant grounds on which this should be added. Regards, VB00 (talk) 15:35, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
