[edit]I looked at the french wikipedia on the 1905 salon and it lists 39 works exhibited but none of these are by van dongen. He had 6 works exhibited at the 1904 Salon des artistes independants.I just wondered if it is certain van dongen was a part of the Fauvist salon of 1905 as it says in this wikipedia articleSayerslle (talk) 19:09, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ref link inserted which has the name of a painting he showed there. You can find other refs on google.[1] The French list doesn't mention Henri Rousseau either. His large jungle scene The Hungry Lion Throws Itself on the Antelope was exhibited near Matisse's work.[2] Ty 23:18, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- The French wiki doesn't list the sculptures in the middle of the room by Marque: "Vauxcelles noticed a child's torso and a woman's bust of Florentine inspiration (they were the work of the sculptor Albert Marque) and exclaimed to Matisse who was standing nearby: "Look! Donatello in a cage of wild beasts (chez les fauves)!" This quip was reported in the Gil Blas of October 17 and the term "Fauve" caught on at once."[5] It does mention the incident in the text though. Just the bust of the child is mentioned in most accounts.
Thankyou for confirming van Dongen was part of the Fauvist salon. I've just discovered this artist - I love his work.Sayerslle (talk) 01:34, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
Merge Augusta Preitinger
[edit]Note: the discussion about merging Augusta Preitinger into Kees van Dongen is at talk:Kees Van Dongen Superp (talk) 08:18, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Not anymore it ain't. It now follows below (Talk:Kees Van Dongen now redirects here). -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 21:53, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
- There is obviously no reason to merge the page of Guus Van Dongen and her husband's: she had her own career as an artist, thank you (Artlover2011 (talk) 03:23, 15 March 2011 (UTC)artlover2011)
- Yes, but being your own person does not warrant a wp article. As it is now, the article is a bit meagre. It is difficult to find any sources about her and it seems her notability is mainly due to her being married to KvD. Let's see if we can expand it (I made a start), otherwise I vote merge. - Oppose: Being her own person does warrant a WP article. Just because it's hard to find sources, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't exist. How about merging Clown to Circus ? Krenakarore TK 15:57, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose: She's in the Union List of Artist Names, for one: see here. Here's another reference. "Her notability is mainly due to her being married to KvD." - We have articles on Catherine Blake, Suzanne Manet, and Katia Mann. The German, French, and Spanish wikis have articles on Agnes Dürer. And if you want someone whose notability came entirely from marrying people- ahem- just about everyone, in succession - take a look at Alma Mahler. ;) Lithoderm 17:19, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
- Indifferent: I again did some searches in both Dutch and English today, and it turned up nothing beyond what is in the meagre article already ( her life with KvD, and, she painted). No trace of a career, auction result, exhibition... Does not hurt to keep it as a stub though. Superp (talk) 09:53, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
