Keanu Reeves film vocabulary for learners of English
[edit]Good day! I'm a fan of two things: the English language and Keanu Reeves. That's why I came up with the idea of compiling a list of challenging words and idioms used in films featuring the One along with their definitions for non-Native speakers of English like myself. What I do is while watching films featuring the man, I write down any words or expressions that I don't know quite well. Then I sit down and create a vocab where I list the words and their definitions in chronological order. It's helped me to significantly improve my vocab. Some of the entries in the list are GRE-level words! (e.g. Winona Ryder to Keanu Reeves: Sartorially, you get high marks.)
My list is missing a few films because 1) I haven't been able to find the films in any language; 2) only found them in a language other than English; 3) found the films in English, but without subs.
I'd greatly appreciate any help finding the English subs to the films missing from my list. I'm requesting help after exhausting all available resources except maybe video-on-demand providers like Netflix. Also, I live in Kyrgyzstan and in many cases DVDs/videocassettes don't ship to my home country.
Here's what's missing from my list:
- Films
- Flying (1986) (English audio, but no subs)
- Permanent Record (1988) (English audio, but no subs)
- The Prince of Pennsylvania (1988) (English audio, but no subs)
- The Last Time I Committed Suicide (1997) (English audio, but no subs)
- Me and Will (1999) (English audio, but no subs)
- Television films
- Letting Go (1985) (couldn't find at all)
- Act of Vengeance (1986) (have found in Russian only)
- Brotherhood of Justice (1986) (English audio, but no subs)
- Under the Influence (1986) (English audio, but no subs)
- Life Under Water (1989) (English audio, but no subs)
- Documentaries
- The Great Warming (2006) (couldn't find at all)

- @Nataev: Good to hear that his films have helped you to learn a second or third language. This talkpage is really to discuss the list itself and improvements. However in terms of subtitles, the most popular such websites are Subscene, DivX Subtitles, and OpenSubtitles. I can't vouch for their accuracy though as they are user-submitted. The websites should show you how to use the subtitles files but essentially it requires downloading the relevant subtitle and accessing it through a player such as VLC. - @Cowlibob: Good day! Thank you for responding! Indeed, talk pages are there for us to discuss improvements to the associated articles. Since the various contributors to the list have done an amazing job, I thought some of them might be able to help me. I'm a longtime Wikimedian, and do realize that my request is a bit off-topic. :) I've scoured almost all subtitle repositories out there. Maybe I should check them again. As you rightly mentioned, such websites get their content from volunteer contributors – rather like here on Wikipedia. Maybe some of the missing subs have been uploaded since I last checked. Cheers! Character name?
[edit]In the introduction to this article, Reeves' character in the Bill and Ted franchise is referred to as Ted "Theodore" Logan. However, the filmography chart itself refers to this character as Theodore "Ted" Logan. This change dates from the 12:19, May 10 2021 version of the article. Meanwhile, the article Bill and Ted refers to this character as both "Ted" Theodore Logan (in the introduction) and Ted "Theodore" Logan (under "Cast and crew"); the article Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure refers to him as Ted "Theodore" Logan; the article Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey refers to him as Ted "Theodore" Logan; and the article Bill & Ted Face the Music refers to him as Ted "Theodore" Logan. Which is correct? I feel that this character's name should be standardized across this article and across Wikipedia. Msoul13 (talk) 21:28, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Msoul13: Standardised per credits and AFI database. Cowlibob (talk) 08:24, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
