"Cocaine dealing business"

I have found no reports anywhere (and certainly not in any of the references on this page) that "[i]t is reported that [Leonard's father] used [his] car wash as a front for a cocaine dealing business." so I have removed that line. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:C:2200:1E1:3C44:F511:B3F9:6949 (talk) 04:10, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Why is he named Kawhi?

The name sounds Hawaiian. But wikipedia does not mention anything about why he is named Kawhi.

According to this, it's just made up. Kuru (talk) 22:15, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

The youngest MVP prior to Kawhi was not Magic Johnson in 1979 it was Tim Duncan in 1999

The youngest MVP prior to Kawhi was not Magic Johnson in 1979 it was Tim Duncan in 1999. This needs to be corrected on the main page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.16.182.149 (talk) 03:19, 16 June 2014 (UTC)

I fixed with citation. Thanks for the tip.—Bagumba (talk) 05:39, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
After someone else changed it back to Magic, it seems this source is consistent with Duncan's birthdate in 1999 Finals (23) being older then Leonard (22).—Bagumba (talk) 06:30, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
And this from NBA.com says Duncan was 23 i.e. older than Kawhi and Magic was younger in '80 and '82.—Bagumba (talk) 05:45, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

New Spurs photo needed

Now that Kawhi Leonard has been named MVP as a San Antonio Spurs NBA player, I think using of a college photo in our infobox wearing a San Diego State college basketball jersey has become highly redundant and at first glance even confusing to readers. Don't get me wrong, this college photo may be used in a lower section while discussing his college career, but we do urgently need a new photo of the player in proper Spurs jersey if possible. werldwayd (talk) 12:43, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Yes werldwayd, I completely agree. I see it's been a while since your post. Sigh. –DangerousJXD (talk) 07:34, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Father's murderer

@MisterJay123: I saw your revert of "as of" to date the statement about the murdered having not been found yet. Can you provide a reliable source for your edit summary comment that they "stopped looking for him so he will never be found". If it's verifiable, we can avoid the dated statement concern by stating that authorities stopped their search in year XXXX. Otherwise, the current text of "The murderer had still not been found by authorities." would become outdated if they are found in the future. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 21:36, 16 January 2016 (UTC)

Here it states the family topped asking for updates and have moved on. http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/63208638/san-antonio-spurs-kawhi-leonard-brushes-off-game-6-missed-free-throw-against-the-heat Leonard has also spoken of it on TV. (MisterJay123 (talk) 22:47, 16 January 2016 (UTC))

Thanks for the link. However, the family moving on doesn't mean that he will never be found. Even if the police were to have actually said that they stopped, new evidence could conceivably surface and it would be re-opened. I'm not understanding why WP:DATED should not apply here. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 22:59, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
That argument is a hypothetical. I can hypohetically argue that the murderer has already been found an convicted for a different crime. But if you feel that strongly about it, I will assume you will up date the "As of" every year? If yes, then by all means, have at it. (MisterJay123 (talk) 23:23, 16 January 2016 (UTC))
"As of" shouldn't be updated unless an RS says the murderer still hasn't been found. We can't assume that since we haven't seen it in the news, that they haven't been found. Maybe it wasn't reported, maybe it was and we missed it. "As of" tells the reader we know this was true back then; it doesnt mean it still is true, it may or may not have changed. In the print days, an encyclopedia had a publish date, so the reader knew when it was last updated. With Wikipedia, the reader has no way of knowing if something written in present tense still applies unless something like "as of" is there.—Bagumba (talk) 05:24, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
But if it was true in 2014, shouldnt we assume it still applies? This isn't like a town census where it's likely to change. Also, using that logic, there should be an "as of" for every time there is a 'career-high', 'franchise record', 'nba record', etc. But do as you wish; I didn't know it would cause this big an issue when I edited it. (MisterJay123 (talk) 07:23, 17 January 2016 (UTC))
WP:DATED has the caveat "Except on pages updated regularly ..." We could add "as of" to everything, but that has not been the consensus, and I see no reason to make this an all or nothing proposal. Yes, it is selective, but I truly think it is an improvement. I don't think editors are on the lookout for murder suspect updates as much as they are for season- and career-highs.—Bagumba (talk) 07:34, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
Right but the only possible update would be if the suspect was found so if there is no update, then it is assumed the info is still true. Like the movie Avatar is still the highest grossing movie ever made. No one needs to read an "As of" before reading that because there is only one update to be made, and if the update were to happen then you would just delete the info entirely, see what I'm saying? Plus, in my opinion, I think "As of 2014" could imply that it is no longer true now. That's my last point so if you still disagree, you can change it back with no further fight from me. (MisterJay123 (talk) 08:02, 17 January 2016 (UTC))
I do think DATED applies here. As nobody else has objected and you've deferred, I will add back "As of 2014" (2014 was the last source cited in the article). Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 07:10, 25 January 2016 (UTC)]
Just one more question: Don't you think if they found the killer, it would have made the news? (MisterJay123 (talk) 20:46, 25 January 2016 (UTC))
Yes, but unlike a player trade or even a triple-double, I'm not confident it would quickly get updated. This isn't Michael Jordan's dad. Look at all the bios that have reference to so-and-so's kid or relative is "currently playing" with such-and-such team that are outdated.—Bagumba (talk) 21:01, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

South African

I removed the part about Kawhi Leonard's great grandparents being from Cape Town, South Africa. Leonard was trolling the Congolese Serge Ibaka on his show, it was clearly a joke judging his tone. Leonard is clearly African-American. 2604:6000:1311:85A5:2D19:B756:BCD9:A4A3 (talk) 17:14, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

3rd youngest player to win finals mvp?

“named NBA Finals MVP.[24][25] He was the third-youngest player to win the award (22 years and 351 days),[26] behind only Magic Johnson—who won in both 1980 (20 years and 278 days) and 1982 (22 years and 298 days)”

Magic is only one player so isn’t kawhi the second youngest “player” even though magic did it twice he wasn’t a different person HaulinBoats (talk) 10:49, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

Good point. I changed it from "third-youngest player" to "third-youngest winner" (source used "recipient").—Bagumba (talk) 11:05, 24 May 2019 (UTC)

I added a slight tweak to the last sentence of his biography. Please amend for grammar/clarity if necessary. However, I firmly believe that there should be at least some mention in Leonard's biography of his recent signing. Although it is not "official" (i.e. the Clippers have not publicly announced the signing), there is still a widespread belief that Leonard will sign or has signed. To be frank, leaving any mention of the Clippers out of his biography is misleading. Lasalleexplorer (talk) 15:00, 10 July 2019 (UTC)

Inconsistency over previous DPOY winners

Under the heading "2015-16: First All-Star Selection" it is mentioned that Leonard "earned Defensive Player of the Year honors for a second straight year, becoming the first non-center to win the honor in back-to-back seasons since Dennis Rodman in 1989–90 and 1990–91." Later on, under the heading "Player Profile," it says "He was named the 2014–15 and 2015–16 NBA Defensive Player of the Year (the first non-center to win the award consecutively since Sidney Moncrief in 1984)." The Player Profile information should list Rodman in 1991 instead of Moncrief. QuickS1998 (talk) 08:31, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

I just removed it from that section, as it's repetitive. "Player profile" is usually about their style, not stating accolades (typically in "Legacy").—Bagumba (talk) 09:27, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

Reference [101] is wrong. It states that Kawhi Leonard was the first to win finals MVP in different conferences. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar achieved this feat by winning it with the Milwaukee Bucks (eastern conference) in 1971 and again with the Los Angeles Lakers (western conference) in 1985.[1] WikPediaUser23 (talk) 19:23, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Not done: The source you provided doesn't explicitly say that Kareem won in both conferences. In fact, Milwaukee was not in the Eastern Conference yet for the 1971 NBA Finals.
