Anybody know how to change Taking office to Assumed office? GoodDay (talk) 16:51, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

The picture of Kathy Dunderdale that was being used was no good because of copyright issues, if someone can get a picture of her ASAP it would be great because it is definitely needed. Jordo72 (talk) 18:17, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wouldn't it be nice if finding pictures compatible with Wikipedia was easy? NorthernThunder (talk) 04:57, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fianlly Premier Dunderdale's assistant has uploaded a picture of her! Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 18:17, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That was a bad picture but she is barely unrecognizable now then she was not long ago due to losing around 100lbs. Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 18:26, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Abitibi expropriation

[edit]

There should be some information included in the "Natural Resources Minister" section about the Abitibi expropriation, I may be able to do it but I don't no the subject that well so it would be better if someone else tried to write it. Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 03:09, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Referring to Danny Williams

[edit]

I was wondering how exactly to refer to Danny Williams in this article after the initial "Danny Williams", should it just be Williams or should it be Premier Williams up to the section on her becoming Premier? Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 03:09, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, after the initial mention, a person should be referred to by surname only. To get a better understanding, you should probably take a look at WP:SURNAME, where the policy is explained a little better than I can explain it. Cmr08 (talk) 04:44, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Energy/Environent

[edit]

I'm working on an Energy and Environment section but don't have time at the moment to finish so I will place it here, feel free to contribute.

Energy and environmental policy

[edit]

One of the major issues since Dunderdale became premier has been the development of the first phase of the Lower Churchill Project--Muskrat Falls. Several weeks before becoming premier, Dunderdale along with Williams and Premier Dexter of Nova Scotia, signed a partnership agreement to develop the multi-billion dollar hydro development. Dunderdale had her first official meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper on February 1, 2011, among issues raised she asked for his government's support with a loan guarantee for Muskrat Falls.[1] Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 17:17, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I will be reviewing this article for potential GA status. My review should be posted shortly. Cheers, Nikkimaria (talk) 20:23, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to place this article on hold to allow time for the below concerns to be addressed. Nikkimaria (talk) 20:47, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Writing and formatting
  • Don't use contractions
  •  Done
  • "She was sworn in as premier on December 3, 2010 after the resignation of Danny Williams...When Williams resigned as premier of

the province, Dunderdale was sworn in as his successor" - unnecessary repetition in lead. There are several examples of repetitive phrasings throughout the article -

  •  Done
  • "the Status of Women" - is this an organization? Can you briefly explain its function?
  • Spell out "%" in article text, spell out numbers under 10
  •  Done
  • Avoid one-sentence paragraphs where possible
  • Specify on first occurrence that the currency being used is C$
  •  Done
  • "She appointed Innovation, Trade and Rural Development Minister Shawn Skinner as her successor, she made several other changes but did not appoint a Deputy Premier" - grammar
  •  Done
  • Need more hyphens
  • "14 doctors announced their resignations...the 13 doctors who tendered their resignations" - what happened to the other doctor?
  •  Done
  • "the premier’s office announced that due to a couple of incidents since Dunderdale became premier in December that police bodyguards had been assigned to her" - grammar
  •  Done
  • "The NTV/Telelink poll..." - this paragraph is very difficult to read, can it be reworded or summarized more clearly?

I think I cleaified it

Accuracy and verifiability
  • Footnotes for electoral tables can appear within the table itself, usually after the title
  •  Done
  • All web sources need publisher and retrieval date
  •  Done
  • Date formatting should be more consistent

Don't understand this?

Broad
  • When did she marry? When were her children born?
  • "Dunderdale was elected to the Burin town council and served as deputy mayor" - when? In general, be more specific about the timeline
  • "the rules committee upheld the previous ruling by the credentials committee" - you didn't actually say that the previous ruling was made by the credentials committee
Neutrality
  • Some phrasings could be less colloquial
  • Keep in mind that as a biography of a living person neutrality standards are higher for this article than for most
  • "she negotiated and signed several major development deals which will add billions of dollars to the provincial coffers" - which will? Unless you can predict the future, be more vague and politician-like ;-)
Stability

Looking much better. There's still some work to be done, but I think it's now good enough for GA status. I encourage you to keep working to improve the article. Nikkimaria (talk) 13:13, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Opinions on new sections

[edit]

I have been wondering recently about what sections should be added to expand the article, and would like input from others. I was wondering if a section on her recent weight loss (about 100 pounds) and her new exercise regimens should be mentioned. Premier Dunderdale has become the first sitting premier to take part in the annual tely ten road race, she has spoken openly about her weight loss and the reasons for her new healthier lifestyle. If others think this is relevant enough please suggest a title for the section. As well if you can suggest some new sections I'll try my best to create them.
